Morning after the storm
We got a lot more snow than was forecast. We had hoped to avoid snow removal and hadn’t planned on it. (That’ll teach us!)
Tom had been here late on Sunday night and I had swept these steps. I long ago found out if snow on steps is walked on, it hardens to them, making ice spots. So I try to clear steps and walkways before walking on them.
Monday morning the snow was level with the top of each step again. But it was still light and fluffy and I could sweep it away, so much easier than shoveling. I did all the walkways between the shed and house and all the steps around the house, before I went up to feed the cats. They weren’t best pleased… I was late.
The only thing I can get out of the New Herb garden now might be sage leaves, the dark mound in center. It looks odd, no yard fence…bare…missing…
The wildflowers and their seedheads were never knocked down, so there’s still stuff for the birds.
Lots and lots of seedheads… Good thing, because I don’t have poles to hang birdfeeders this year.
House plants and Christmas decorations in the roundtop window, against the snow
The geranium against the snow…
The clivia will get brighter color as it opens more fully. The peace lily is also flowering and the begonia from 2 years ago, in addition to one of the poinsettias.
Tom came out after work and got the plow on the truck and did the plowing.
He says a couple of the hydraulic hoses don’t seem to be connecting properly and the plow doesn’t move as it should. But it was good enough for the snow amount we had.
It was hard to plow as the ground hadn’t remained frozen, so he was getting a lot of dirt. But in the end, it was plowed well, plenty of room for future storms. My son got out and shoveled the walkways away from the house and up at the barn in the afternoon. Then he brought in lots of wood, as the temps were to plummet to 16F.
I spent the day doing laundry, researching freight and movers, and reading Gone with the Wind. I also went through my photo albums and collected photos of the old house to bring on Wednesday when my family goes to see the house we grew up in.
On Tuesday I have to plan the lunch for Wednesday, wrap my mom’s and brother’s presents, continue searching for transport for the stove, finish the laundry, and clean up the kitchen.
