So I’ve been looking at this unholy mess most of the winter. I hadn’t been able to clean out flowerbeds as the cold came early.
On Wednesday morning, I got my post up and the kitchen cleaned up and then called to say I wasn’t going to exercise class because I had Garden Gym.
The wood guy’s helper showed up at 9AM and I went out to get him started in the woodshed.
It was an awful mess because we got far too many little kindling pieces and my son had been tossing them aside. So he first had to get behind the stacks on the left and stack that mess, then he could move this mess over behind the stacks and add it to the other stacks.
Once he had the piles moved and stacked, then he could start cleaning the floor of the right side so we could put new support posts in and lay 3” x 5” on the floor.
He worked for a couple hours and this is as far as he got. He had to leave before noon for another job. He’d be back at 9AM on Thursday to continue.
South garden – Iris reticulata ‘Cantas’
Once I had the kitchen cleaned up, I sat down to rest and wait for it to warm up. I headed out at 10AM and got set up. My #1 intern had cleaned off the tall stuff from about 4’ of the west end of the New South garden the night before.
But I still had lots of roots to get out. I had Chiondoxas up and budded but the white iris had grown over them. In trying to remove the white iris, I topped them all. So sad…
I got the area she had cleaned off done then I had to start removing the rest of the tall stuff.
I’d made it half way down the garden by 11:15AM and I went over to check on the wood shed work. He had reached a point to stop and so when he left, I went inside for lunch and a rest.
I headed back out at 12:30PM and worked until 2:30PM and finished. I got my photos and notes and cleaned up. I was one beat bunny!
South Herb garden – Thursday’s project
The first thing I did when I got inside was take plenty of ibuprofen! Then I sat down to rest for a while. I got up and changed out of my garden clothes and went in to lie on the couch and watch ‘The Darling Buds of May’, mostly with my eyes closed for 2 hours.
The finished New South garden
That finished playing just a few minutes before my brother arrived home and I had to follow him in my car as his was going in for an oil change. That finished me off for the evening.
My #1 intern came home and worked on washing plant trays for a while.
I made supper and put in the next DVD and lay on the couch until bedtime. I got 2 small fires going as it was to be 40’s and rain in the night. Then I got a shower and was in bed by 9PM.
On Thursday it’s to be even warmer, well into the 60’sF, so I plan to get out there again and tackle the South Herb garden. The wood guy’s helper will be back and my #4 helper will arrive at 1:30PM. She will be tackling a thorough cleaning of the bathroom and has shopping to do. I have to go with my brother once my #4 helper leaves to retrieve his car.
