MacIntosh apple blossoms
On Friday morning I wasn’t moving too fast. I got caught up on my posts and the laundry was finished. But mostly I sat and rested.
My #3 helper arrived at 12:30PM and we headed out to start in the Big garden. We collected all the tools I thought we’d need and we got ready.
Big garden middle third cleaned out
My #2 intern had done some cleaning out of the middle third of the garden. But when we got out there, we found she’d gotten the big tall stuff, but left the grass, weeds, and leaves.
So we resigned ourselves to finishing the cleaning out before we started anything else. We got the few weeds out and the leaves and stalks and then got the middle section cleaned up.
On the east side of the garden, I had done an experiment in 2025 with direct seeding old mesclun seed. It had done amazingly well, and actually came back up this spring without any covering.
But that wasn’t what I had planned for that area…
So we sat down for a while to rest and to figure out what we were going to do about laying out the garden in that area. We decided to start on the south end and start laying out the garden and see where things ended up.
We got the south third laid out and some of the mesclun will have to be pulled out as there is broccoli there and it won’t welcome competition. But she had to leave so we didn’t start the middle third.
I was pretty tired and when she had gone, I just sat down and watched the rest of ‘Alice in Wonderland’ and had supper. It was to be another night in the 30’s and was to rain all day Saturday, so I asked my son to light a fire in the wood stove, but make sure I had wood for the masonry heater if I need it. I was in bed by 9PM.
On Saturday I asked my #2 intern if she wanted to bring me plant shopping. She has to arrange a car so I don’t know if she succeeded. It would have been my husband and I’s 39th wedding anniversary on Saturday. So outside of shopping, I haven’t anything planned.
