On Saturday morning the first thing I did was get the sprinklers going. I think this is only the 2nd time I have watered this year. It takes a long time to water all the gardens. I try to cover as many as I can with each sprinkler. The sprinklers run for 3 hours, either in the early morning or late afternoon into evening. It’s taken 3 days to do the few I’ve done.
I got a load of dishes in the dishwasher, shut the house up against the heat, and headed out to the compost sifting by 9AM, a good bit later than I planned.
I finished the sifting and got 3 half totes. I can’t move the full totes by myself. I dragged each one on a sled to where they would be spread, 2 to the South Herb garden, dodging sprinklers, and one to the New North garden.
I started on this end of the South Herb garden because I wanted to get the one in the sun done first. It took both half totes and the remainder of the 3rd one. It didn’t quite finish it, the southernwood and meadowsweet didn’t get any.
I did the little plants at the end to the right of the downspout first and ran out for the 2 taller ones behind them. The violets and lily of the valley in the rounded corner garden didn’t get any either.
Then I went and did the north gardens that were in shade. I only needed about a 5 gallon bucket full to finish the North Corner garden. It took the rest of that tote and a good amount of the half tote to finish the New North garden.
The lily of the valley at the end of this garden did get some. They are going by now and are all brown.
I finished around 10:30AM and was worn out. It had gotten hot out. I cleaned up and got my photos, but I’ve not made any notes. I need to do that still.
I got a shower and sat down for a while. Then I got lunch and went to bed for a couple hours. At 3PM I got up and my brother came down and we went off for our ice cream. He wanted pumpkin ice cream, but they didn’t have it yet. Next week they said. But our next trip won’t be until October if they are still open, I don’t think.
In the evening I watched a nice movie with Morgan Freeman, The Magic of Belle Isle.
On Sunday I plan to weed the West Shed garden which hasn’t been done in a while, then dehydrate some of the Walla Walla onions. I might go to a tag sale if my brother will bring me. He also said we might go shoe shopping.
