South Herb garden – peony bud with obligatory ant
On Wednesday morning it took a while to get my post up and I finally got out to the kitchen to clean it up at 8:30AM. I collected all the materials and got set up around 9AM.
There were only 4 trays to do, so I got the pots filled and watered, then went to sit down and do the paperwork.
I worked steadily all morning and had everything planted and under lights by 11AM. This is what I started:
Vegetables:
Cukes 9
Gourds 9
Pumpkins:
White 6
Orange 6
Summer squash 6
Zucchini squash 6
Winter squash:
Acorn 6
Butternut 6
Kabocha 6
Flowers:
Lobelia 9
Sunflowers 6
Total: 75
Totals for year:
Vegetables 28
Herbs 32
Flowers 26
Total Started: 1,023
White lilac in full flower
But I was too tired to clean up or water so I went and got the outside feeding of the seedlings in the cold frame done.
It’s a lot easier with the hot water hose but still took me an hour and a half to do. The floor of the cold frame is lumpy (thanks moles!) so I use branches and small stones to level the trays. I had to do all the trays brought out on Tuesday.
I use ⅓ hot water in the 5 gallon bucket, and then add ⅔ cold water to temper it for the little plants. Then I measure out some of most of these jars and mix it well. It fills the watering can 2½ times.
When I finished I got the hoses coiled back on their holders and went in to rest for awhile at 12:30PM.
South Herb garden – chive flowers, Star of Bethlehem
Around 3PM I got up and cleaned up the mess from seed starting and got the inside seedlings watered or fed as needed. That finished me off.
West garden – coral bell buds and flowers
On Thursday I am being picked up at 9:30AM to go to the funeral of Tom’s dad. I expect to be gone most of the day. It’s to be a gloomy day but warm, maybe showers.
