The New Herb garden has changed a lot since June 2022.
On Wednesday I had asked my general helper to come early, at 7:30, as it was humid and to get hot. I’d decided to get the New Herb garden finished. The walkways, which hadn’t gotten enough bark mulch, had to be weeded before more was put down. A load of bark mulch was to be delivered before noon.
I also wanted to touch up the hay mulch in the first 3 rows. I’d not had a lot of mulch when they were done, so had not put it down as thickly as in the other rows. We got that done. Now I just need my son to spread the bark mulch in the walkways and I need to finish the labels and put them back out.
We finished about 10:30 and went inside. We got started on the labels. My helper pried them off the stakes. The labels still in good shape she put back on a new tall stake. The others I had to work on.
The ones we could finish
The bark mulch was delivered around 11:30 and we went back in to work on labels some more.
I set to work on the damaged ones while she continued to take labels off stakes. I cut away the damaged parts, leaving the paper part intact. Then I wiped them down as they were pretty dirty. I printed the ones that I’d either never made or to replace damaged ones. Then I laminated the printed ones.
Next I had to make reinforcements for where the staples went through the edges. That takes a long time, as there’s 2 per label and I had about 25 labels. Once I had a supply of those, I started laying out the labels with their reinforcements on another laminating sheet.
Next I cut them apart and if needed, sent them through the machine until they were completely laminated. So many thicknesses often cause bubbles. I worked on them until 5 PM and still have a lot to do.
I may work on them more on Thursday afternoon as it’s to get really hot again and the AC is in my office.
