On Thursday morning my helper was here and we didn’t need to go shopping. Tom and I had decided on fish cakes and collards for supper. I had everything for the fish cakes and he was bringing the collards.
So my helper and I decided to do the seed inventory, something we’d planned 2 - 3 weeks ago and she couldn’t come that week. It took us about 3 hours to sort the seeds by type (veg, herb, flower), inventory each type and then re-file them under the date they would be started. We also corrected the lists in each starting date bag.
I’d weeded out the oldest ones in the last inventory but there were still a lot of pretty old seeds, from 2016 or 2017. Those were discarded, to be put out for the birds.
Next we went into my garden planner program and started laying out gardens. The Big garden is on left, the Small one on right. We did the onions first, as they are hardest to find places for, where they haven’t been in for the last 3 years. Then we did the tomatoes and peppers. Both of these were in the Small garden this year.
Last we got the squash and pumpkins and melons placed in the Big garden. She had to go so we stopped. I was resting for a while when my appointment arrived and I’d forgotten all about it. So I raced around and got set up. An hour later I cleaned it all up and started zooming around getting set up for the dinner. They would arrive around 5:30 PM.
I had gotten the table set and was starting the fish cakes when I got a call at 3:15PM, they would be delivering the stove at 4:30PM!
The first thing I had to do was clean off the old island so I could move it. I had to work quickly because I needed my son to help move it and he had to go to work. We moved it to the end of the new island.
Once that was done I stripped everything out of the entry and tossed it in the laundry room. Then I went up to the barn and got the cats done, came back and parked the car out of the driveway.
They arrived shortly after 4:30 and it was a job for the 2 of them to get it up the stairs into the house. Then they had to maneuver it through the opening into the tiny clean room. They dinged up the trim on the opening in the process. But the stove was here and appeared undamaged.
I had no time to unpack it and went back to making fish cakes. Tom and his wife arrived on time and supper was served up and enjoyed. More ice cream for dessert.
We talked about the gardens. They want to help with expanding them to be able to do 3 rotations and start getting stuff from them. We talked about what sorts of things they would like me to grow. So that’s more or less sorted out.
They left about 8PM and I got ready and went to bed. So exhausted!
We’ve got a nasty storm coming in Thursday night into Friday and if my helper can get out of the hilltowns safely, she will come. The first job will be to unpack the stove. Then we will put the house back together. Finally we will continue with garden plans.
