On Friday I was up at 5:30AM, got my post up, and started on the bills/budget. I worked on the mess for about 3 hours and then went and sat down for while. I got some lunch and my #3 helper arrived at 12:30PM.
We got the house plants fed and I had to sit down. I’d run out of gas after doing the shed and seedlings all day on Thursday. She vacuumed the first floor then went and did some shopping.
Once she had gone, I lay on the couch watching the last of “The Darling Buds of May’ until bedtime. It was very warm and I didn’t light a fire but I did pull the shades.
On Saturday morning I was up around 6AM, got my mail read, and started on the bills/budget. I worked on it until 10:30AM, then got ready and went out to tackle the rest of the West Shed garden.
I’d tried to do it back in March but the soil was too cold. I’m glad I didn’t keep on because now the invasive had sent up little green tops, making it much easier to find. There were many hundreds of them to pull out, as they all have a taproot and the bigger ones have runners. There was also a good amount of crabgrass to get out too.
I’d waited until 10:30AM so it would warm up some. But when the sun came around onto the garden, I was too hot. I’d put on a thermal shirt because I was in shade. So I had to stop about 12:30PM. I’d gotten about ¾ of it done.
I rested for an hour and had lunch, put on a T shirt, and went back out at 1:30PM to finish. Once it was done, I put down both BulbTone and FlowerTone as the plants were well up.
In this garden, there’s a row of daylilies along the shed, a row of white iris in the middle, and the daffodils along the edge.
The wood had never arrived and about 2PM the wood guy’s son appeared. The conveyor on the processor had broken and he was done for the day. He’d get it up and running on Monday then bring over the wood.
So I decided to put down FlowerTone in all the finished gardens and the walkways. I’ve cleaned out 9 gardens of various sizes so far. The shed gardens are only 16’ long. The biggest so far was the New South and the South Herb both at 20’.
When I walked by the West Herb/West garden I saw it had also gotten the invasive in it, but not as badly. These 2 together are 24’ long and will be the next ones I tackle, before the invasive gets much bigger. It looks like that might be Wednesday.
I got my notes and photos and cleaned up the mess and went in to sit down for a while. Around 4:30PM I got a shower and lay on the couch to watch ‘Green Card’. I like this movie because of her conservatory and gardens!
I made supper about 7PM and pulled the shades. When I checked the weather, it had changed and it was to drop into the 30’s during the night and not get above mid 40’s during the day and rain and rain. I knew about the rain which is why I put down the amendments. So I got both stoves going and was in bed by 8:30PM.
On Sunday I hope to finish the bills/budget and I have to tend the seedlings. That and keeping stoves going will be plenty after doing that garden.
