On Monday I was up before 5AM and got the kitchen cleaned up and the laundry started. I was out in the Big garden by 6:30AM to start the weeding.
It hadn’t been done at all since we finished planting the garden on June 12th. I had done the sugar pod rows as I picked so that part was done. The first thing I wanted to get done was weeding the green peas and getting them back up on their fences. I had to pick them on Tuesday.
Once I had finished that I weeded the parsnips and decided to get the row strings up and the stakes holding them. I left a few, protecting things that hadn’t gotten very big yet.
Around 9AM the first load of wood arrived for the masonry heater shed. The trailer with the wood for the wood stove had to be moved so they would be able to work. They had 3 guys to stack it. They left around 10AM for the second load.
I finished the south ⅓ of the Big garden around 9:30AM. It was starting to get hot so I quit.
On one of my breaks I saw this flash go up the trunk of the crabapple tree and go way up into the branches. By the time I got my camera, it was over in the MacIntosh tree, way up. It was a fat chipmunk and the only reason I got this photo is it stopped to groom.
I went inside and got a shower. I had put a gallon of water in the fridge before going outside. I figured the workers would need it. So when they came back around 11:30AM, I put it out there in an insulated water cooler.
This had belonged to my grandmother. It has a cap to keep the insulated top on. They drank all of it and half again throughout the day. I kept putting more bottles of water in the fridge to cool.
In all, they brought in 3 trailer loads and it didn’t all fit in the masonry heater shed. So they put it in the front of the wood stove shed that was already part full.
Then they brought the wood stove trailer up and dumped it and my son and his friend tried to get it into the shed. But by then it was pretty hot, 91F, and they only got half of it done.

I had gotten way behind in my posts because I was so busy then tired. So I spent the afternoon keeping the laundry going and editing the nearly 100 photos I had taken over the last few days. I was, of course, very closely supervised.
Tom arrived about 7PM with the milk order and 64’ of tobacco netting. His dad had used it in his gardening, and now he was gone, it wasn’t needed. He said my #3 intern will be coming on Wednesday and Friday in the morning.
I watched videos until bedtime at 8PM.
On Tuesday, it’s supposed to rain. I sure hope it does as we’ve not had a decent rain in 2 weeks. I plan to get out to pick the green peas and then pay bills/do budget and get my posts written. I also have laundry to finish and peas to process. Not to mention the mess I made last Friday from moving the office stuff to be cleaned. I can’t believe Wednesday is July 1st!
