Magandang buhay everyone!
It's been a long while since my last garden post and today might be the best time for it. The truth is, I had been too lazy for some reason. Thankfully, the husband still had it in him so he took over, hehe.
Speaking of which, here's one of the roses that he planted a year or two ago. Well, I just remembered that some of those in pots were regrown sometime in August last year. They have been flowering and adding some bright colors to the yard.
He liked the variety so much that he cut some stems a few weeks ago to regrow them. And as far as I can tell, they have already grown roots. These will probably bloom around August or might be earlier. Will have to see. Hope to not forget to monitor them. These are the types that don't grow tall.
Anyhow, while the husband was away in the past few days, I visited the backyard. May sound unbelievable but I have not been there for months! I wanted to see if I could pick some courgette (zucchini) and water the plant too.
He mentioned last week that it has a lot of fruits but most of them were rotting and he was not sure if it was because of the weather or something else. We have never grown zucchini before and this was our first time so we are clueless about its care and maintenance.
While checking it out, I observed that the fruits are still small yet some are already rotten, and a few are turning pale to light yellowish. There were some injections in the fruits' skins. A couple of its leaves had white molds in them too.
I decided to discard most of them, thinking they might have been infected with some virus. I would ask the husband to spray something on the plant when he comes back, I thought. He came home the other day but I had forgotten about it, lol!
Checking it again today, I noticed the same thing on its fruits which made me believe they had been stung by nasty insects. I didn't see anything flying around though.
It's such a shame that we cannot enjoy the fruits now. I will be doing some research or will ask around what could be a remedy to stop the infection. I would also appreciate any recommendation from anyone here, thank you in advance :)
Meanwhile, our citrus trees in the other house have also been infested by aphids. These pests are common during the dry season and they are very difficult to eliminate.
A neighbor recommended spraying them with red-label (strong) insecticide but we were adamant so we have not done anything to them yet. Besides, the trees are still young and we plan to keep them short so we might just have to trim them on our next visit.
As I mentioned a few days ago, this month is the peak of the dry season here in our place and it can be extremely hot during the daytime. So there is no chance of me touching any of the greens just yet. Hopefully, I'll be able to in the coming months.
Well, this is my garden update after a long while and my participation in the March Garden Journal challenge as well. Thank you and have a lovely weekend!
