Hello everyone and all members of Hive Garden Community, how are you today? May we all always be given health and happiness in every routine of work and activities that we do today. Today I have symptoms of fever, cough and headache, maybe because last weekend I took a rain shower due to camping and holidays with my family. Last weekend, I went on vacation with my extended family and forced me to leave my vegetable garden without my supervision or control.
Luckily, I grow my vegetables in a hydroponic way so everything can be safely under control for a few days. Hydroponics is a modern way of gardening that utilizes narrow land and water. Every time I go on vacation or activities that make me leave my hydroponic garden, I have to do several things such as making sure the water conditions are still available and there is no shortage when I will travel. As usual, every Monday I will make a Garden Journal about my hydroponic gardening activities. There are some interesting things that I did this week.
Pakchoy / Bok Choi Development
This week, the Pakchoy I planted was 24 days old after sowing. The development is very good and optimal. It didn't take long, only one month, the farmers were able to feel the harvest from this vegetable.
Pakchoy or Bok Choi are favorite vegetables to grow in Hydroponic Installations. Many hydroponic farmers in Indonesia use this vegetable as their first vegetable when learning to grow vegetables using the hydroponic method. These vegetables can grow easily if cared for properly and of course get fertilizer with the right concentration.
I have two different growing ages of this vegetable. For bigger pakchoy, I think I'll be harvesting this week. I have a regular customer for this vegetable. Last week, I told about the condition of some pakchoy leaves that had holes due to pests, but the damage to the leaves did not spread. It seems, the garlic solution that I made can prevent the spread of pests in these vegetables.
Kangkong
There are some questions about this vegetable, maybe because kangkong is not familiar in your country. Kangkong is a popular vegetable in my country and some East and Southeast Asian countries. Kangkong is a favorite choice of mothers, because the price of this vegetable is cheap and can be processed into delicious and delicious food.
Last week, I told about the process of transferring kangkong seeds to the planting medium. Currently, the kangkong that I planted has grown well and optimally. You can see it from the photos above.
It only takes 14 days to get kangkong ready to be harvested. Although the price is cheap, this vegetable still has a high economic value because kangkong is a vegetable that has a fast growing age and is certainly faster to harvest. I have two kangkong planting locations, for the first location grows better than the second location. I don't know what causes it yet.
Spinach
Spinach is the most popular vegetable by many people. Spinach has high nutrition and other nutrients that are beneficial for our body. Ever since I started gardening with a hydroponic system, spinach has been the most difficult vegetable for me to grow. I tried several times to grow spinach, the results were inconsistent, sometimes the harvest was good and several times I failed to grow this vegetable.
I transferred the spinach seeds that I sowed last week to my hydroponic medium. After a few days, I noticed that there were about 20 damaged and dead spinach holes. However, I am grateful that there are still lots of spinach that are in good condition. One of the factors that makes spinach often fail for me to plant, because spinach seeds have a very small and delicate shape. Often times, I sow a lot of spinach seeds in one planting medium, and they fail to grow and develop.
Conditions of Hydroponic Verticulture
I have reactivated my wall hydroponic since three weeks ago, and I am trying to plant bitter mustard in the hydroponic installation. The conditions of the bitter mustard that I planted are growing well and optimally. At first, I felt that this vegetable could not grow well, due to lack of sunlight.
Hydroponic installation on the wall has a few drawbacks regarding the intensity of incoming sunlight. The development of the vegetables that I grow is a little slower than some of the other vegetables that I grow in other hydroponic media. I grow these vegetables for our family consumption. This vegetable has a bitter taste, but is very delicious when eaten with chili sauce or with warm rice.
Okay, this is my hydroponic journal this time. Hopefully it can inspire and give encouragement to all friends who visit this blog.
Call me Isdarmady, because I have a full name that is very long, namely Isdarmady Syahputra Ritonga. I am a head of the family who work as Farmers Vegetables Hydroponic and Consultant Hydroponics, sometimes I also sell coffee from various regions in Indonesia.
I have expertise dispensing coffee with a variety of techniques and tools brewing, because I have the desire to make a coffee shop with hydroponics as centerpieces. Help me realize that dream.
