Hello everyone and all members of Hive Garden Community, how are you all friends today? May we all always be given health and happiness in living this life. As usual, every Monday I always share posts about my gardening activities in my hydroponic garden. This week, I do many gardening activities such as multiplying celery, sowing seeds and harvesting vegetables.
Pakchoy or Bokchoy
This week, I'm harvesting pakchoy in my hydroponic garden. About 60% of my pakchoy has been harvested and I got about 15 kilograms of pakchoy. I chose pakchoy with a size of 80 grams / pot, so to get 1 kilogram of pakchoy requires about 12 plant holes. This size of pakchoy is preferred because the texture of the vegetables is crispier and softer.
Pakchoy that I harvested at 34 days old, actually if I waited about 10 more days then I would get pakchoy weighing 150 grams/pot but the size of this vegetable is not liked by my customers. After harvesting, I tidy up the hydroponic media that I have. I put all the remaining packhoy into hydroponic media. The plan, I will harvest for a few more days.
I also have about 160 pakchoy which are 21 days after sowing. All of these pakchoy are growing well and have not suffered any insect attack or other damage. My plan is that I will harvest this packhoy in two weeks or before Eid al-Fitr. Of course I will have fun celebrating Eid al-Fitr with my family with vegetables produced in my own garden.
** Kangkong **
This week, I also started transferring the kangkong seeds that I was sowing into the hydroponic media that I have. Kangkong is a prima donna for hydroponic farmers and also beginners who want to learn to grow vegetables with a hydroponic system. The reason is very simple, kangkong is very easy to grow and does not need much attention.
This Kangkong (on April 18, 2022) is about 10 days old. Currently, the size of this kangkong is about 10 cm and next week it will grow to twice the size of this week. Kangkong is also not affected by hot and extreme weather. This vegetable is very resistant to weather changes. Hopefully next week, this kangkong will grow faster and better.
Bitter Mustard – Morakot
During this planting period, I also planted about 90 bitter mustard greens. I plan to consume these vegetables for myself and not for sale. My parents really like this vegetable, even though it has a very bitter taste. However, the bitter taste can stimulate the appetite. I grow these vegetables in two media, namely PVC pipe media and Styrofoam media.
Mint leaves
This week I'm in a quandary as my mint leaf order is very high but I don't have many mints to harvest. You can see, some of my mint leaves are not growing and growing because I keep harvesting every day.
Preparation of Vegetable Seeds
Consistency is the most important thing when we garden. Consistency makes us more tenacious and understand our work better. This week, I also started sowing the vegetable seeds that I prepared to replace the vegetables I was about to harvest.
There is bad news, the pakchoy seeds that I bought seem to be of poor quality, I can see this from their life span which is only about 50%. I sowed about 400 pakchoy seeds and it only grew 220 seeds. For hydroponic farmers, this is certainly very annoying but we can do nothing but replant. I tried to replace the pakchoy seeds from different seed brands.
Thankfully, the lettuce I was sowing grew well with about 70% viability. Currently, I am also ordering lettuce seeds because my seed stock is running out. If the situation is normal and there are no problems, next week I will transfer these seeds to the planting medium. Some lettuce, I've moved to Styrofoam today, I used a nutrient solution with a concentration of 600 ppm for the lettuce in the first week.
Celery
I'm not only gardening with a hydroponic system, I'm also gardening and growing some vegetables the conventional way using soil. Like one of the vegetables that I am developing, namely celery. In Indonesia, celery is also known as “leaf soup”, that's because every cooking and making soup always uses this leaf for garnish. In addition, celery also has a taste and makes one dish aromatic.
Celery is a type of plant that can be propagated by buds. Usually, celery that grows well and is lush will produce shoots. When the celery shoots are out, we can separate it from the mother plant and plant it in a different place like I did. The celery shoots that I have separated, I transfer to a plastic container. Celery is also a vegetable that has very high economic value.
Okay, this is my garden journal this time. Hopefully friends can get new information and new knowledge about hydroponics and vegetables.
Call me Isdarmady, because I have a full name that is very long, namely Isdarmady Syahputra Ritonga. I am a head of the family who work as Farmers Vegetables Hydroponic and Consultant Hydroponics, sometimes I also sell coffee from various regions in Indonesia.
I have expertise dispensing coffee with a variety of techniques and tools brewing, because I have the desire to make a coffee shop with hydroponics as centerpieces. Help me realize that dream.
