Hello everyone and all members of HiveGarden, how are you friends today? I hope and pray that all of us are always given health and happiness in living this life. Usually, every Monday I always share my garden journal about growing vegetables with a hydroponic system, but I postponed a few days to make a garden journal at the end of April.
My Hydroponic Garden Condition
April is only one day away, gardening activities in April 2022 are quite difficult to go through. Early April coincides with the beginning of Ramadan, where Muslims will fast for one month. We don't eat and drink from 05.00 in the morning and we will break our fast at 6.33pm, which means that when we work we don't drink and don't eat, of course this is different from the usual day.
Last week, some vegetables like kangkong and pakchoy in my hydroponic garden. I got about 15 kilograms of kangkong and 12 kilograms of pakchoy. Currently, there are only a few vegetables that I still grow and some empty hydroponic media. The weather in my city is still quite hot but I still do my best for my hydroponic garden.
Vegetable Nursery Preparation
Sowing, planting, care and harvesting are routines that we always do. In agriculture, life is like a cycle and a wheel. Every time you harvest, there will be a replanting process to continue the cropping cycle. Like this time, when the vegetables started to be harvested, I also prepared to prepare the vegetable seeds to be planted next.
These are the pakchoy seeds that I planted 8 days ago. There are 120 pakchoy seeds in one seedling medium and these pakchoy seeds grow about 70%. The germination capacity of this seed is very good, because I use pakchoy seeds from a brand that I don't usually use.
Seedling in a hydroponic system is indeed more tiring and troublesome. We have to put the pakchoy seeds one by one into the rockwool that we have cut to a size of 2.5cm. Vegetable seeds have a very small size and will be very tiring for our eyes. This activity will be more tiring when we see the results of seeding do not work as we expected. Therefore, if I want to plant 500 pakchoy then we have to sow about 700 seeds to prepare the seeds that fail to grow.
This photo is of kangkong seeds that have started to germinate and the second photo is of kangkong seeds that have been 7 days after sowing. The process of seeding kangkong is different from other vegetables, kangkong seeds must be sown under waterlogged conditions to make the roots come out faster.
Pakchoy Development
I took this photo yesterday, from the photos of vegetables in this hydroponic installation we can see the sun is so bright and hot. This pakchoy is 17 days old after sowing, the growth of this vegetable is very good and optimal. This vegetable grows uniformly and there is no pest attack.
I used a liquid fertilizer solution with a concentration of 800 ppm in the early planting period. There are about 200 pakchoy that I planted in this period, I planned to harvest during Eid but it seems my planting schedule is wrong.
Kangkong Development
I have about 120 kale to be harvested this week. This kangkong grows well and there is no pest attack. Maybe, in this photo it looks a little wilted, but believe me it's because in the photo the weather is very hot. To grow properly and optimally, kangkong needs rain water, so I leave every kangkong planting medium without using a roof to let rainwater fall on these vegetables.
Lettuce Development
Next, I want to invite you to take a look at the lettuce that I just transferred to the growing medium a few days ago. This lettuce has unique characteristics, its development in the early weeks will be very slow. If this is our first experience growing lettuce, we will feel doubts whether this lettuce grows well or not. However, lettuce growth will be more visible in the 4th week onwards.
For lettuce, I used a nutrient solution with a concentration of 600 ppm in the two weeks of the initial planting period. This lettuce grows well, no lettuce seeds fail to grow. In addition, the hot weather also makes there are no pests in all of these lettuce.
Mint Leaf Update
Mint leaves are one of the plants that are always present in my hydroponic installation. I regularly sell mint leaves to some of my subscribers. The demand for fresh mint leaves is very high and this week I have refused a lot of orders because my mint leaves cannot meet their production needs. You can see, I harvested the mint leaves so that I only saw a few plants in my hydroponic installation.
Okay, this is my garden journal this time, hopefully it can inspire all of my friends.
Call me Isdarmady, because I have a full name that is very long, namely Isdarmady Syahputra Ritonga. I am a head of the family who work as Farmers Vegetables Hydroponic and Consultant Hydroponics, sometimes I also sell coffee from various regions in Indonesia.
I have expertise dispensing coffee with a variety of techniques and tools brewing, because I have the desire to make a coffee shop with hydroponics as centerpieces. Help me realize that dream.
