Hello everyone, I’m back again. In this blog, I’d like to share with you the growth of our plants these past days.
Another batch of squash planted this year together with chili. The first batch was already harvested last month. We’re hoping for a good price when this is harvested, because the cost of fertilizer is really high now. My brother only had a small profit from the first harvest because the buyer’s price was really low.
Squash still small but slowly growing.
Planting squash is good this rainy season, but the problem is when the rain doesn’t stop, they can’t spray. When there’s no rain we need it but when it’s too much, we start to worry that the plants might get damaged. They removed the weeds and also checked the newly planted crops, and by midday a heavy rain poured down.
Do you grow squash or other vegetables?
I remember back in high school, our house was far from school so I stayed in a rented room with my siblings near the market and also near the school. Every Saturday we went home and on Sunday when we came back, we always brought squash to sell in the market. That’s where we got our allowance for the whole week. That’s why this vegetable is very important for us it helped us survive.
Mushrooms popping up after the rain.
Since it’s rainy season, there are plenty of mushrooms growing in the farm and they’re really clean because they just grow naturally from the soil. My nephew collected a lot truly a gift from the land and a free meal as well.
Do you like eating mushrooms? How do you cook them?
The corn is getting close to harvest time.
This one was damaged during the dry season, so the corn didn’t grow well and stayed thin even though it was fertilized. That’s farming sometimes you win, sometimes you don’t. Better luck on the next planting. By the way, is there anyone here who eats corn rice? I guess only those from Mindanao who plant corn like me, can relate because I grew up eating it.
Do you also eat corn rice? How do you usually prepare it?
Our local saba bananas.
Who here likes banana-cue or turon? I know many of you enjoy that. Before, when my father only had a few banana plants, we didn’t sell , we only ate. But now that there are plenty my siblings always sell. The green ones sell better than the ripe ones, because in the market not everything can be sold in one day, so buyers really prefer the unripe bananas.
Green trees making the road so refreshing.
Who wouldn’t enjoy walking on a tree shaded path like this? You can even rest while breathing fresh air. I really like this tree, it’s a big help during hot days because we can rest under its shade. Some of them are mango trees. When I passed by here last year, it was full of fruit but now it’s not yet fruiting.
Thank you for being with me in this vlog. God bless you all!
