These winter months have been very good for my plants, although for people not so much since there have been several days in which the cold has been felt strongly, cold for the climate of Cuba, which is usually warm and does not have us accustomed to low temperatures. However, my plants seem to think the opposite and to be very comfortable with this winter climate.
In these days I have noticed that they have grown more quickly and that some have bloomed much more, like the linden plant. The linden was a gift that I appreciate very much, not only for its relaxing medicinal properties, but because it reminds me of my childhood at my grandmother’s house when she used to prepare me linden tea before sleeping. The small flowers of this plant I love, they are tiny but together they form a delicate mantle over the green of the leaves. Every time I see flowers I think of renewal and of the silent strength of nature that always finds its way.
This is not the only plant in bloom. Also the basil and the chili plants have given sprouts for the second time, which will allow me to enjoy a new mini-harvest. Every day I check them with enthusiasm, seeing how first a small flower appears and after falling it begins to grow slowly into a green fruit. It is a patient and beautiful process, which reminds me that everything always fulfills a cycle, that ends and always begins again.
The aloe plants have also surprised me, they started as small seedlings and now, little by little, they have been growing with new leaves and shoots. In this winter everything seems to bloom as if it were spring. I think this cooler climate, different from the usual heat of Cuba, has greatly favored the growth of my small garden, that is why the first thing I do when I wake up is go out to the balcony of my apartment, where I have them planted in pots or containers, and check how much they have grown!
This has been an uncomfortable winter for many, with a lot of cold, but not for my plants, which has meant a time of abundance and renewal. And I, watching them develop, have been learning that even in the coldest moments there is always room for life and beauty.
Cheers to the whole community, and until next time!
