I had plans for this November and they included planting lots of trees. Maybe as many as a hundred or so. But time moves so fast I missed checking on the status and location of a family plot of land plus...I don't actually have the time needed...I think. For November is not over, yet.
What I managed to do was buy a few saplings two days ago and spend an hour and a half for two days in a row travelling to, digging and planting at, and getting back from a garden some thirteen miles from where I live.
Two one-hour sessions in two successive days. The muddy ground. Digging with old tools and always in a hurry to complete the exercise and rush back to other matters.
Well, the count is nine. Nine nuts. Nine nut giving trees to be.
Three almond trees of one kind, three almond trees of another with softer shells, and three hazelnut trees.
The only shots I got almost on the way out. The almond trees go almost in a line across the yard, making a connection by air so that bees do their work and have always something to go to in a single hyperspace jump.
Three of the four almond trees I planted yesterday. Today, it was the other five saplings. I started at an earlier hour. It was drizzling by the time I left. And it rained hard in the afternoon. So, I'd say, that was just in time.
So, this year, in early March, I planted another almond one and two chestnut trees. One of each survived so far. Two out of three.
That brings the total count of my attempts to twelve. A dozen. I wonder how many survive until next year... And how about the next five years? Ten? Twelve? Twenty?
Every single one of them matters to me. But still, I am turning into a numbers guy, I do believe in statistics in general and I like increasing my chances by making more shots, while also trying improve my "shooting".
The month of November is not over but my planting attempts might be. We shall see.
Peace and Parsley!
