I was lucky to have gotten a thornless blackberry bush last year. Yesterday, I had fun looking at the flowers of this plant since some buds have opened and showed its real beauty under the temp of 25°C . And so I got my smartphone to shoot some of its pink flowers. This thornless variety is a modern development and I am anxious at how it will be when the berries become matured. Are they sweet and juicy? Let us see.
Blackberry ( German : Brombeere)
A purply black-coloured berry comprising many individual seed-containing fruits surrounding a cone-shaped core. Wonderfully juicy, they’re good raw (straight from the hedge!) or cooked and are bursting with vitamin C. Wild, they’re often called brambles. Source
Good sources of many minerals, particularly iron, blackberries are antioxidants and a source of vitamin C... so I think that is good and I can do away with it by eating fresh berries as an added iron supplement for my health. When I was younger, I had a low level of iron...the reason why I felt so tired and lack of energy to do anything. But that changed when my doctor prescribed me an iron supplement.
Some more buds will probably open today...it was forecasted that we'll have 30°C, so toi toi toi! . In lieu of these changing temps, the blackberry that I planted last year is progressing. Just have a look at those pistils!
Raspberry flowers
The bush I have right now is about 2 years old. I got it as a "daughter newbie" that simply grew out on the sides of the mother plant. There were many of them and this had been one of two I brought along when we moved. I gifted my new neighbor with the other one. Its flowers are white in color but the pistils are smaller than that of the blackberries.
All raspberries are self-fertile, so you only need one bush to produce fruit. They’re best pollinated by bees, and will start producing fruit a year after planting. Though raspberry bushes are naturally inclined to grow in cooler climates, the plants now come in many varieties suited to a range of planting zones. Source
I am so anxious at seeing the first berries, and I hope it would be too soon now that it´s getting summerly weatherwise.
