Hello friends, once again I want to share with you another of my experiences, yes friends, today I want you to know a new method to make avocado seeds germinate satisfactorily, and thus prevent them from being lost, because it is unfortunate when we select a seed of a good fruit and it dries up during the germination process.
As you know, the most common and traditional method is to put the avocado seeds directly into a container with soil or inside a plastic bag, but it is a method that requires a lot of attention, starting by keeping the soil always moist, so that the seed does not use its liquid reserves, because otherwise, it dehydrates, which would cause the germination process to stop, this will not be a problem, but you have to be careful with the risks, and on the other hand, when we put the seeds to germinate directly in the ground, it can be attacked by many bacteria and insects, such as nematodes and moths, among others, so to avoid this, today I will show you a 100% safe method that has given me good results.
100% safe method to germinate avocado seeds
Yes friends, today I want to show you this new method to achieve 100% germination of our avocado seeds, this method consists of placing the avocado seeds in a disposable cup with water, and I can tell you that I have been growing avocados for 24 years On my farm and among the many germination methods that I have used, the method of putting the seeds in a glass of water is the one that has given me the best results. This is what I want to show you.
How to germinate avocado seeds in a glass of water:
For this we are going to use a disposable glass or any other glass, but make it transparent to be able to observe the germination process, we are also going to use wooden sticks like the ones used for teeth.
- The first thing we must do is select the seeds of a good fruit, and when I say good fruit, it must be of a good size, dark green, the fruit must be healthy and ripe, and the flesh must also be creamy and yellow. actually, I don't like fruits with pale flesh because they are generally tasteless:
- Once the seeds are selected, we proceed to remove the outer layer called endocarp, it is important to remove this skin, to prevent it from rotting and contaminating the water:
- The next step is to insert 3 wooden sticks at one end of the seed, generally the seeds have different shapes, there are round, semi-round and oval, but all have a wide and flattened part at one end, which it is where the roots of the plant emerge, and the other end that is smooth, which is where the leaves emerge, for this reason we will place this part upwards, and precisely there is where we will place the sticks, to hold the seed from the edge of the glass:
- Once the toothpicks have been placed in the seed, as I have shown in the images, now we place the seed inside the glass of water:
Seed germination time:
The germination time begins between 16 to 20 days, first the roots will appear and then little by little the stem with its leaves will emerge, I usually transplant the plant when it has 5 well-formed leaves, but I do the transplant in a plastic bag with a good substrate, it will remain there until it reaches a height of 50 centimeters and then plant it directly in the ground.
As you have seen, this method is very easy and with few materials, and I repeat, germination is 100% safe, now with this method I do not lose seeds, as I was saying, once the seed has germinated, I only hope that the plant has at least its 5 leaves and then I pass them to the plastic bag with a good substrate, there I wait until the plant reaches a height of 50 centimeters to then plant it directly in the ground.
Well friends, I hope that this information is very useful, and that you can put this method into practice, so that your avocado seeds germinate 100%, greetings.
