The wax flower or mother-of-pearl flower is a climbing plant from Asia and Australia and so far for me is the one that has caught my attention.
And maybe it is not the most beautiful plant nor its flowers have the beauty and fragrance of a rose but the process it undergoes since it is a small button until they open their flowers is completely incredible and that's precisely where the name of this post comes from.... metamorphosis, because I think there is no better word to describe the flowering process of this plant.
In my last post I showed you a little more of the home garden and promised to document the whole process of the Waxflower blooming because I truly believe it is something worth sharing.
By the time I wrote my last post I already had a few shots, as I was photographing daily the whole process that took eight days from bud to full bloom.
As I told you above this plant is a kind of climbing plant and blooms in the form of a small buquet similar to the ixora, with many small flowers.
The first time I saw them blooming I was very surprised by all the changes that took place day by day but as I had already skipped some days I decided to wait to start with the shots from the beginning and my mother was in charge of letting me know, so as soon as the bouquet was ready she informed me and I started with the daily shots.
I must say that I not only like the flowers of the Flor de Cera, but the leaves themselves and the fact that it is a climbing plant makes it more charming. Its leaves are oval with a very nice dark green that together with its dark brown branches give it a beautiful appearance. So documenting this was quite an experience.
The first day the bouquet was super tiny only exhibiting the buds where each flower would later open.
From far away it looks like something very common but as most of the things if we see them very close and with more detail they end up surprising us and this case was not the exception.
The bouquet was formed by twelve pointed buds of a very intense old pink color and seen closely you could appreciate a kind of "little hairs" that surely have a name, but that I don't know hehe. The truth is that even so they are very nice to see.
By day two the buttons at first glance are unchanged except that they have thickened and grown a bit larger, but their overall appearance remains the same.
On the third day the buds had changed shape and you can see that it looks like a kind of five-pointed star with a small protrusion right in the center that is where it will deploy its petals.
As you can see, they completely lost the oval shape they had days before. Their color is still an intense old pink, with a very smooth and shiny wax-like appearance.
On day four as it happened on the second day there was no change in terms of its structure as such. Only a small increase in size and by the way, it is a rather small flower and I think that is part of its charm.
On day five there was a small change in their color and shape, because although they kept their star shape, they became a little larger and the protuberance they showed in the center in the previous days almost disappeared.
On the other hand, the intensity of its color decreased only a little. So far she showed no sign of wanting to open and I was completely anxious for them to do so but she definitely takes her time!
For day six gave me a big surprise because although the previous day remained completely closed for the morning of this day two small flowers began to unfold their petals, which was super exciting because it was approaching the time to see them in all its splendor.
Day seven was undoubtedly the best day because it allowed me to see them in different stages. There were some completely open, others with all the petals unfolded but not completely open and others with some petals open and others closed.
As you can see their color and appearance on the outside is completely different. On the outside it is just like wax, smooth and shiny and its old pink color predominates, but when it opens everything changes.
If we see it up close it looks like velvet or plush, it's very plush haha and it lost all its brightness and intensity. Now it is a very light pink color and the center is another story! A much smaller star with different colors and textures complete this peculiar little flower.
And finally on the eighth day all the buds opened and twelve small flowers show their unique beauty.
The different textures and colors it shows us are its great attraction. It is incredible that something so small can hold so much diversity and beauty.
There are two stars of different sizes, colors and textures; the larger one of a baby pink color and velvety appearance has in its center another smaller star of white color with the center in a much more intense pink, even more intense than the one it had outside.
The texture of this one is completely smooth and shiny in appearance and although I do not perceive any scent, for the ants they are delicious because they were feeding on them.
I don't know if you find it as interesting all the changes that this little flower undergoes but for me it was incredible to see how from its waxy appearance with the passing of the days it becomes a completely different flower.
But what surprises me the most is that being so small it presents so much diversity in its structure and I must say that I am in love with this beauty of my mom's garden and I hope that very soon the other colors that she has at home (red and white) will bloom.

La Flor de Cera o Flor de Nácar es una planta trepadora procedente de Asia y Australia y que hasta ahora para mí es de las que más ha llamado mi atención.
Y quizá no es la planta más bonita ni sus flores tengan la belleza y fragancia de una rosa pero el proceso que sufre desde que es un pequeño botón hasta que abren sus flores es completamente increíble y de ahí precisamente viene el nombre de éste post... metamorfosis, porque creo que no hay mejor palabra para describir el proceso de floración de ésta planta.
En mi último post le mostré un poco más del jardín de casa y les prometí documentar todo el proceso del florecimiento de la Flor de Cera porque la verdad creo es algo digno de compartir.
Para el momento de escribir mi último post ya tenía algunas tomas, pues a diario estuve fotografiando todo el proceso que tomó ocho días desde que estaban en botón hasta que abrieron por completo.
Como les dije arriba esta planta es una especie de planta trepadora y florece en forma de buquet pequeño parecido al de las ixoras, con muchas florecitas.
La primera vez que las vi florecer me llamó muchísimo la atención todos los cambios que día a día se producían pero como ya me había saltado algunos días decidí esperar para comenzar con las tomas desde el inicio y la encargada de avisarme fue mi madre, así que en cuanto estuvo el buquet me informó y comencé con la tarea de tomas diarias.
Debo decir que de la Flor de Cera no sólo me gustan sus flores, sino sus hojas en sí y el hecho que sea una planta trepadora la hace más encantadora. Sus hojas son ovaladas de un verde oscuro muy bonito que junto a sus ramas marrón oscuro le dan una apariencia hermosa. Así que documentar esto fue toda una experiencia.
El primer día el buquet estaba súper pequeñito únicamente exhibiendo los botones donde posteriormente abriría cada flor.
De lejos se ve como algo muy común pero como la mayoría de las cosas si las vemos muy de cerca y con más detenimiento nos terminan sorprendiendo y éste caso no fue la excepción.
El buquet estaba formado por doce botones puntiagudos de un color rosa viejo muy intenso y vistas de cerca se podían apreciar una especie de "pelitos" que seguramente tienen un nombre, pero que yo desconozco jeje. La verdad incluso así son muy lindas de ver.
Para el día dos los botones a simple vista no presentan cambio alguno salvo que han engrosado y crecido un poco más, pero su aspecto en general sigue siendo el mismo.
El tercer día los botones habían cambiado de forma y se puede apreciar que parece una especie de estrella de cinco puntas con una pequeña protuberancia justo en el centro que es por donde desplegará sus pétalos.
Como ven, perdieron por completo la forma ovalada que tenían días atrás. Su color sigue siendo un rosa viejo intenso, con una apariencia muy tersa y brillante parecida a la cera.
El día cuatro tal como pasó el segundo día no hubo cambio en cuanto a su estructura como tal. Sólo un pequeño aumento de tamaño y es que de paso sea dicho, es una flor bastante pequeña y creo que en gran medida eso es parte de su encanto.
El día cinco hubo un pequeño cambio en cuanto a su color y forma pues aunque conservó su forma de estrella se tornaron un poco más grandes y la protuberancia que mostraban en el centro en los días anteriores casi desapareció.
Por otro lado la intensidad de su color bajó sólo un poco. Hasta ahora no mostraba ningún indicio de querer abrir y yo estaba completamente ansiosa de que lo hicieran pero ella definitivamente se toma su tiempo!
Para el día seis me dió una gran sorpresa porque aunque el día anterior permanecían completamente cerradas para la mañana de éste día dos pequeñas florecitas comenzaban a desplegar sus pétalos, lo que fue súper emocionante porque ya se acercaba el momento de verlas en todo su esplendor.
El día siete fue sin dudas el mejor porque me permitió poder verlas en distintas etapas. Habían algunas completamente abiertas, otras con todos los pétalos desplegados aunque sin abrir por completo y otras con unos pétalos abiertos y otros cerrados.
Como pueden ver su color y apariencia por fuera es completamente diferentes. Por fuera es tal cual cera, tersa y brillante y su color rosa viejo predomina, pero al abrir todo cambia.
Si la vemos de cerca parece terciopelo o peluche, se ve alcholchadita jaja y perdió todo su brillo e intensidad. Ahora es de una color rosa muy clarito y el centro es otra historia! Una estrella mucho más pequeña con colores y texturas diferentes completan ésta peculiar florecita.
Y finalmente el día ocho todos los botones abrieron y doce pequeñas flores lucen su singular belleza.
Las diferentes texturas y colores que nos muestra son su gran atractivo. Es increíble que algo tan pequeño pueda albergar tanta diversidad y belleza.
Son dos estrellas de diferentes tamaños, colores y texturas; la más grande de un color rosa bebé y apariencia aterciopelada tiene en su centro otra estrella más pequeña de color blanco con el centro en un rosa mucho más intenso, incluso que el que tenía afuera.
La textura de ésta es completamente lisa y de apariencia brillante y aunque no le percibo ningún aroma, para las hormigas resultan deliciosas pues estaban alimentándose de ellas.
No sé si a ustedes les resulta igual de interesante todos los cambios que sufre ésta pequeña flor pero para mí fue increíble ver cómo de su apariencia de cera con el pasar de los días se convierte en una flor completamente diferente.
Pero de todo ésto lo que más me sorprende es que siendo tan pequeña presente tanta diversidad en su estructura y debo decir que estoy enamorada de ésta belleza del jardín de mi mamá y en espera que muy pronto puedan florecer los otros colores que tiene en casa (rojo y blanco).
