Transplanting... Third Report [Eng/Esp]

To be able to see the process of a seed until it becomes an adult plant capable of reproducing is truly magical and here, thanks to my son's motivation to plant, we can enjoy this magic live and direct.

Happy day #Hivegarden friends, hope you are having a great week. On this side of the world super happy, and is that we finally made the change of our seedlings that were in eggshells to a slightly larger space, so that they continue to grow just as beautiful as so far.

As you may remember, all this has been a kind of experiment because we had never planted seeds in this way and the result was incredible, besides they look very nice in the shells and inside the egg carton.

The ones that were able to germinate grew with an incredible speed because I could notice great changes in them daily and that is one of the things I like about planting tomatoes, peppers and peppers, because they grow very fast and do not take long to show their fruits, which causes me a lot of excitement and motivates me to be more attentive to them.

In our case, in the last report a week ago, our plants were about to have their third set of definitive leaves, which indicated that we had to transplant them very soon because there were also several seedlings in a single shell and that is not good for them.

So we kept an eye on their growth and when they finally had the third set of leaves we decided to transplant them.

My husband had previously brought home the necessary soil and we only needed to buy the bags that are used for this purpose, but I, always anxious, did not want to wait to buy the bags and started looking for options at home that would allow us to move them as quickly as possible.

In that search it occurred to me that we could use some plastic bags we had at home. Those that are used to store toys in children's piñatas and that's what we did.

I had saved some of different sizes and for now we decided to use the smaller ones and we hope to let them grow there long enough to move them to their final place.

So with everything ready the process of transplanting our baby plants began. There would be 20 in total!

The first thing we had to do was to prepare the soil mix and start filling the bags, which as they were quite tall we decided to fold in half because the seedlings are not that big yet. This will allow us to add more soil and raise the level of the bag as much as our seedlings need as they grow.

For this job the kids decided to join in, but as usual they got distracted playing in the yard and left Jose and I in charge of everything! So while he filled the bags, it was my turn to break the shells to separate the matitas, because in some cases there were several in one shell. And the first to be transplanted were the six paprika ones.

To do this, I separated them very carefully because their roots were intertwined, moistened the soil, made a small hole with my fingers and introduced them into it, and then covered it very well with soil and adjusted the size of the bag to the size of the plant.

Once the paprika plants were planted, it was the turn of the tomato plants, which were 14! Luckily it is a pretty fast job and in spite of the nervousness for having to transplant them, they reacted very well.

At no time did I notice them drooping, on the contrary, I think they appreciated having a much larger space with a good amount of soil, plus a place just for them.

Once they were ready in their little bags we decided that they were still too small to be left downstairs, so we took them upstairs again and I had to organize the window so that they could all get in.

For now we continue with their care upstairs protected from the ants and thinking about how we will make the platform, as we recently used one of the pieces we wanted to use to create one for four tomato seedlings that were born on their own in our yard and are already bearing fruit. So now we have to figure out how we can make a platform for the babies when we have to take them down.

Poder ver el proceso de una semilla hasta convertirse en una planta adulta capaz de reproducirse, es realmente mágico y por aquí gracias a la motivación de mi hijo por sembrar, podemos disfrutar de esta magia en vivo y directo.

Feliz día amigos de #Hivegarden, espero estén teniendo una gran semana. Por éste lado del mundo súper feliz, y es que finalmente realizamos el cambio de nuestras plantitas que estaban en cáscaras de huevo a un espacio un poco más grande, para que sigan creciendo igual de bellas como hasta ahora.

Como recordarán, todo esto ha sido una especie de experimento pues jamás habíamos plantado semillas de ésta manera y el resultado fué increíble, además se ven demasiado lindas en las cáscaras y dentro del cartón de huevos.

Las que pudieron germinar crecieron con una velocidad increíble pues diariamente podía notar grandes cambios en ellas y ésa es una de las cosas que me gusta de sembrar tomate, ajíes y pimentones, porque crecen muy rápido y no tardan mucho en exhibir sus frutos, lo que me causa mucha emoción y me motiva a estar más atenta a ellas.

En nuestro caso, en el último reporte de hace una semana, nuestras plantas estaban a punto de tener su tercer grupo de hojas definitivas, lo que nos indicaba que muy pronto había que transplantarlas porque además habían varias plantitas en una sola cáscara y eso no es bueno para ellas.

Así que estuvimos atentos a su crecimiento y cuando finalmente tuvieron el tercer juego de hojas decidimos transplantarlas.

Mi esposo previamente había traído a casa la tierra necesaria para ello y solo nos faltaba comprar las bolsitas que se usan para tal fin, pero yo siempre con la ansiedad a flor de piel no quise esperar a comprar las bolsitas y comencé a buscar opciones en casa que nos permitieran cambiarlas de lugar lo más rápido posible.

En esa búsqueda se me ocurrió que podíamos darle uso a unas bolsitas plásticas que teníamos en casa. Ésas que se usan para guardar los juguetes en piñatas infantiles y eso hicimos.

Tenía guardadas algunas de diferentes tamaños y por ahora decidimos usar las más pequeñas y esperamos dejarlas crecer allí lo suficiente para trasladarlas a su lugar definitivo.

Así que con todo listo comenzó el proceso de transplantar nuestras plantitas bebés. Serían 20 en total!!

Lo primero que teníamos que hacer era preparar la mezcla de tierra y comenzar a llenar las bolsitas, que como eran bastante altas decidimos doblar a la mitad porque las matitas no son aún tan grandes. Ésto nos permitirá ir añadiendo más tierra y subiendo un poco el nivel de la bolsita tanto como lo necesiten nuestras plantitas a medida que vayan creciendo.

Para éste trabajo los niños decidieron sumarse, pero como de costumbre se distrajeron jugando en el patio y nos dejaron a José y a mí a cargo de todo! Así que mientras él llenaba las bolsitas a mí me correspondió ir rompiendo las cáscaras para separar las matitas, pues en algunos casos habían varias en una sola cáscara. Y las primeras en ser transplantadas fueron las seis de pimentón.

Para ello, las separé con mucho cuidado porque sus raíces estaban entrelazadas, humedecí la tierra, hice un pequeño hoyo con mis dedos y las introduje en el, para luego taparlo muy bien con tierra y ajustar el tamaño de la bolsita al tamaño de la planta.

Sembradas las de pimentón correspondía el turno a las de tomate que eran 14! Por suerte es un trabajo bastante rápido y a pesar del nerviosismo por tener que transplantarlas ellas reaccionaron súper bien.

En ningún momento las noté decaídas, todo lo contrario, creo que agradecieron tener un espacio muchísimo más grande y con una buena cantidad de tierra, además de un lugar sólo para ellas.

Una vez listas en sus bolsitas decidimos que aún estaban pequeñas para dejarlas abajo así que las subímos nuevamente y me tocó organizar la ventana para que lograsen entrar todas.

Por ahora seguimos con sus cuidados arriba protegidas de las hormigas y pensando cómo haremos para la plataforma, pues hace poco ocupamos una de las piezas que queríamos usar para crear una para cuatro matitas de tomate que nacieron por su cuenta en nuestro patio y que ya están dando fruto. Así que nos toca pensar cómo podemos elaborar una plataforma para las bebés cuando haya que bajarlas.
