Hello, friends of Hive and Hive Garden. I hope you’re all doing well. As for me, I’m quite tired because I’ve had to sleep with my dad here at the outpatient clinic and I only have a plastic chair to spend the night on. Today is my fifth night here, but I hope he’ll be discharged tomorrow as he’s feeling much better.
Today I wanted to give you a quick update on the tomato and pepper plants I have at home.
Just in case you don’t remember, or haven’t read my blog before, a few months ago I started a small seedbed of ‘Margariteño’ tomatoes and peppers, and I’ve been making compost for them because the soil conditions where I live aren’t great. The plants are already quite big now; we haven’t harvested them yet, but almost all of them have fruit growing on them.
I planted all the sweet pepper plants in medium-sized pots because I didn’t want to plant them directly in the ground, given what I told you about the soil, and they’ve surprised me because they’re still small and they all already have sweet peppers growing on them, which seem huge to me if you look at how tiny the plants are, but I’m happy to see that they’re producing.
I also had to make some supports for the pepper plants using sticks and nylon string to hold them up and keep them upright, because the weight of the peppers makes them bend over, and this has worked really well. I’ll come and show you as soon as I harvest them, and that’ll be soon because you can see that some of them won’t be long now.
As for the tomato plants in the pots, I told you I’d made supports for them too and that they were flowering; now there are several tomatoes growing, and the plants have grown so much that I’ve had to prune them and tie them up in places to keep them upright, especially now that the tomatoes are growing.
The ones that haven’t made much progress are the tomato plants I sowed directly into the ground; they’re still very small but they do have flowers, although none have set fruit yet. I’m thinking of taking them out and planting them in pots or in those gardening bags they sell, to see if they thrive, because even though I prepared the soil with compost, they aren’t growing as they should. So I’ll probably do that to see if they take to it.
Well, my friends, that’s how things are going with the little crop. The cassava plants are struggling with the sun, which is far too intense, and I think we’ve gone nearly two months or more without a drop of rain, but they’re growing away and I hope we’ll have a good harvest.

Hola amigos de Hive y de Hive Garden, espero que todos estén muy bien. Por mi parte bastante cansado pirque me está tocando dormir con mi papá aquí en el ambulatorio y solo tengo una silla plástica para pasar la noche, y ya hoy es la quinta noche aquí, pero espero que mañana le den de alta porque está mucho mejor.
Hoy les quería traer una pequeña actualización de las matas de tomate y pimentón que tengo en la casa.
Por si acaso no se acuerdan o no habían leído antes mi blog antes, hace unos meses que hice un semillero pequeño de tomate margariteño y pimentón y estuve haciendo compost para ellas porque las condiciones del suelo donde vivo no son buenas y las matas ya al día de hoy están bastante grandes, todavía no hemos cosechado, pero ya casi todas tienen frutos creciendo.
De las matas de pimentón todas las sembré en envases de tamaño mediano porque no las quería sembrar directamente en la tierra por lo que les dije de la tierra y me han sorprendido porque todavía están pequeñas y todas ya tienen pimentones en crecimiento que me parecen grandes si se fijan en lo chiquita de la matas, pero estoy contento de ver que están produciendo.
A esas de pimentón también les tuve que hacer unos soportes con algunos palos y líneas de nylon para sujetarlas y mantenerlas derechas porque el peso de los pimentones las doblan, y con esto se han mantenido muy bien. En el momento en que coseche les vengo a mostrar, y eso será pronto porque hay unos que se ve que no les falta mucho.
Las matas de tomate que están en los envases, yo les dije que les había hecho también sus soportes y que estaban floreando y ahora ya hay varios tomates creciendo y las matas han crecido tanto que ya las he tenido que podar y amarrarlas en algunas partes para que se mantengan derechas sobre todo ahora que los tomates están creciendo.
Las que no han avanzado mucho son las de tomate que sembré directo en la tierra, esas están muy pequeñas pero también tienen sus flores, aunque no han pegado ninguna todavía y estoy pensando en sacarlas y sembrarlas en envases o en las bolsas que venden para jardinería a ver si prosperan porque con todo y que preparé la tierra con compost no están creciendo como deberían, así que lo más seguro es que haga eso para ver si prosperan.
Bueno mis amigos así vamos con la pequeña siembra. Las matas de yuca luchando con el sol que está demasiado intenso y creo que ya tenemos casi dos meses o más sin una gota de lluvia, pero ahí van creciendo y espero que sí podamos tener una buena cosecha.
