I am not giving up..
This is the third time, I have put up these plants at my native. As you know, I have been moving between my family living in the city and native place, I try to maintain the garden at both places. It has become an addiction, I would say. Also its a necessity especially for Winter - its difficult to get other flowers, so we must grow these winter flowers.
The nature has spoiled all the plans this year. It has destroyed my plants twice at my native. I started putting up this mini garden almost two months back, mixing soil, cocopeat, and vermi-compost.
They were going beautifully when the nature started to play - it rained continuously for few days with low pressure situations. And not just once, it happened three times. And the trees died because of that. I was curious to find out the reason and went to a local nursery to ask and bring some new saplings. And that is when I learned a new thing - the cocopeat is not suitable for rainy areas - it destroys the root of the tree , if it becomes wet for several days. I have been gardening for three years, and my thought was, cocopeat makes the mixture light and thus helps the root grow faster. We always learn something new in our life. Learning never ends.
I always visit a government nursery - over the time, they know me well. Though there are private ones, the price is reasonable in government nurseries. And they are not very strict on pricing - sometimes they give more saplings free. Now a days, the agriculture department is more interested to see people doing farming. Here are some nice photos from the nursery.
See this beautiful violet flower ? It blossoms only in winter. And it sells at a very high price - 200/- per plant. I got one plant last year, and my native is now full of these. We have got so many of them, the only drawback is that, they grow bigger and cannot be planted in containers. I also spoke to one of our organic garden guru who advised to use mustard cake, neem cake and Trichoderma viridi. If you do not know, then Trichoderma viridi is the good fungi that helps improve the soil quality. So I got them all from a private nursery and have now added to these plants. Hopefully, this time, I will see some results.
Unfortunately just today there is a news about a low depression coming in next 2 days - it may not impact heavily to my area, but I am thinking to lift these containers inside the factory, if it actually rains heavily for more than a day.
Gardening is all about experimentation - With changing climate, we need to learn a lot and I am learning something new every time. I even have a dream to grow all my vegetables myself. We have place in my native, and it will be possible only when I stay here permanently. But still its worth doing what I can. I am not giving up this hobby anytime.
