People never understand what it takes to build a garden and still give negative feedback whereas I genuinely helped but got criticism for none of my fault.
The garden that I built up last year was spoiled by the society but they wanted to start gardening on the other side park this year, after a gap of more than five years. They sought my opinion to shape up the garden and the very first thing I told them was to improve the soil quality by adding cocopit, vermi compost, but they were unwilling to spend money on that. They also requested me to bring saplings and they were very specific on getting seasonal yellow inca saplings, which is barely available.
So I looked out at all my known nurseries and one fine day while coming from another work, got to know that yellow inca saplings are available but only one tray, consisting more than 100 plants.
Given that the weather was not favorable this season, there was high demand and since I got the opportunity, I brought one full tray for our society, after getting confirmation on phone.
I told them to plant these saplings only after improving the soil condition, because these saplings would survive for long time. Unfortunately by the time I came back from another work, they already started planting them on hard soil. And the next day, the new gardener went ahead and planted all of them. He has no idea about plants and was just a simple daily wage labor, before joining here at somebody's recommendation. Seeing the pathetic state of the soil, I spent my own money and time, to provide organic fertilizers ( like seaweed, fish oil etc) to these plants, spraying insecticides every week. It's as if I am their half gardener, which I do only because I am a plant lover and would love to see a garden with flowers. The person in charge yesterday came in, when we were spraying the insecticide and told us, the plants are not growing very healthy. Probably I brought wrong saplings, he wanted to plant some other variety which would grow in bushes. There is no such variety in inca - that was my answer, but then he tried to defend his own thoughts, without much knowledge. You cannot have very healthy plants in hard soil - look at my pots, I have been improving the soil quality every year, since last ten years. The soil has become gold class and only then plants would grow healthy - basic or fundamental knowledge that one should have, if being involved in gardening.
So you can probably imagine, how heartbroken I was - spending so much time, money, effort and now you are criticizing me, without any effort. I am no longer buying saplings for them anytime in future - lessons learnt. Sometimes life teaches us in hard ways - learn from that and move on.....
I will still care these plants this season - because I have done everything so far. These people want to take credit, with which I am fine - I don't need credit for my work - my satisfaction lies somewhere else. I will share the growth in couple of weeks and probably you guys can judge.
