Plant Veggies to keep healthy and Eat Veggies to have more energy
A healthy day to one and all. We have fine weather today that makes me inspires to share with you what we have in our garden.
Gulayan sa Paaralan ( school garden) is a program in which the purpose of the activity is to have proper nutrition and to keep the learners healthy.
The learners were trained in the proper planting of vegetables and spices. They were also taught to use recyclable materials for planting like empty gallons, old tires, plastic bottles, etc. This program reminds them how important to plant vegetables and how important vegetables are to our bodies.
As their teacher, I encourage them to plant vegetables at their respective home and teach also their siblings how important vegetables are.
Just a quick view of what we have planted in our school garden.
This is Camote (sweet potato). It prevents heart attack, it could also stabilize your blood sugar, and reduces inflammation.
This is Kangkong ( Chinese Cabbage). It reduces cholesterol and it is also a treatment of jaundice and anti-diabetic.
We planted Camote and Kangkong in an old tire with bamboo fences.
This is Alugbati commonly known as spinach. We planted it in a recycled container. These plants could help in proper digestion and reduce local swelling.
We also have Onion leaves that we usually used in our cooking. It is good to plant like this in our coz this is expensive in the market nowadays. I advised everyone to plant onion leaves as it grows easily.
We have Okra ( Ladies Fingers) in our garden. This plant is good for the heart and liver. I usually used this especially if I cook veggie soup (utan bisaya) paired with dried fish...Super Yummy!!!
We have Malunggay (Moringa) as well which helps to lower cholesterol and has anti-oxidants and it also helps to lower blood sugar.
Kamatis ( Tomatoes) and Talong ( Eggplant) also were planted in our garden which could help our body to function normally.
We have different types of Pepper. Bell pepper, Sword pepper, and spicy red pepper. It helps to prevent anemia, has anti-oxidants and it keeps your night vision healthy.
We also have Tanglad ( Lemon Grass) and Sangig ( Lemon Basil). Tanglad helps to cure stomaches, high blood pressure, and vomiting. Tanglad is useful in our daily dishes especially when we cook Tinolang isda it smells good. Sangig could alleviate anxiety and depression.
Aloe vera was also planted in our school garden. This is a medicinal plant that helps to moisturize skin.
Pineapple can be found also in our garden. I planted this one and after a year, it is now started to bear fruits.
OUR SIMPLE NURSERY!!!!
Seedlings were found in our Nursery and also the animal manure, mulching, etc.
We applied organic fertilizers in our school garden like cow manure, goat manure, chicken manure, mulching, and egg shells fertilizers.
These were some of the harvested vegetables and spices from our garden and some were brought by the learners to their home so that they could enjoy it together with their family as well.
I believed that planting and growing our vegetables and spices could help mitigate hunger.
My students harvested Kangkong and Camote tops and cook them after and this serve as our viand for lunch.
Note: Health benefits were according to the signage posted and some were from my own experiences.
That's all for now my hive friends. Thank you for spending time reading this blog. God bless everyone!
