Humming my favorite song I climbed the stairs to my garden only to be met by two pairs of eyes. I swear on my garden I saw two pairs of eyes looking at me from a distance. I have never seen a creature before in my entire life with two pairs of eyes. Wait a minute, I guess I have seen tiger with two pairs of eyes, you don't believe me? I can give proof, a photo I clicked sometime ago, but I am afraid that aka #hivegarden won't let me do so in this post.
Let me get back to this strange yet beautiful creature I met in my garden. It had a huge head as though it had hydrocephalus. Those beautiful, blue eyes like those of a child, beaming with innocence and purity. It's chubby body like a cherubim seemed to extort from me love which I wasn't willing to give. "You beast," I yelled "you deceiver you've eaten up the most precious plant I've ever owned. Your baby looks doesn't hide your gluttony," I screamed, still panting for breath after my climb upstairs.
That little imp looked at me with glistening in her eyes, as if there was ne'er a hint of evil in her heart. "Mommy, why are you so angry with me, please do not look at me with such anger in your eyes. I snacked on those leaves because I was told that this was food. I was only obeying the instructions of mama butterfly," she said with a cute lisp and fluttering eyelids as I stood mesmerized.
"Now don't turn your baby cuteness on me," I said in a a guttural voice, "it won't work on me I have seen hundreds of your kind and I won't be moved." with determination in my voice I looked away from her eyes, which seemed to hypnotize me. "No" I screamed, "I won't fall for your charms, I won't lose another plant to an avaricious caterpillar like you"
"Mommy, please don't be cruel, I will die if I don't eat, I have just a few more hours to be a caterpillar and then I will be shut in the silence of the cocoon until time releases me with pretty wings to fly and bring joy to human hearts. Please don't kill me before my time, give me one chance."
The sweetness of that angelic voice, that lisp and the innocent smile reminded of my boys when they were young. Mark would always do something naughty and look up at me with huge, innocent eyes, smiling like an angel while those dimples deepened in his cheeks and made my heart melt. "Oh no, this is not Mark, I cannot confuse an imposter with my darling son" I trying to keep my steely resolve.
"Mama, just a few leaves and I'll be done, You'll never see me again, not this form, ever again. Please don't throw me out," she begged. "You love nature, I am the kiss of nature, the greatest lover of beauty, better than Keats or Wordsworth, how can you love them while you hate me? Please let me remember you always as a lover of nature. When I come back as a butterfly I promise to help your plants bear more fruits and seeds. I assure you that I will help increase the yield and make your garden keep on giving you more flowers without you having to spend another penny on seeds evermore. Please mama, please, let me live," she stopped breathlessly. Then as if all this speaking had made her hungry she gobbled two more leaves as I considered the pros and cons.
I knew she was conning me, she would make a great saleswoman, but I guess my resolve was fading. She batted her eyelids and gave me that desperate look. Cunningly she held back a smile as she saw my fingers tremble, my face lose its grimness. She knew she it all wrapped up.
She curled herself into a C with her eyes still on me. She knew her magic was working and she pushed her luck further. "Mama, I love you, I will soon be back to pose for your pictures, I won't flit and fly away like the other butterflies you chase. I will remember your kindness and let you show me off to the world like you did with your babies" she whispered softly.
"Okay, you win, pose for me now, let me show you off to my friends on Hive. I will let let them see how magnificent you are even as a caterpillar." I knew I had lost the battle and these were my words of surrender to this adorable enchantress.
