Mika has been helping my husband clean up all the leaves in the yard this week. I found this photo from last year when she was a puppy. She loves chasing the rake while he piles the leaves to haul away.
This morning I went out and cut down the last of the Swiss Chard in the garden. We had our first freeze overnight and it was still good enough to make an omelet for the family breakfast.
I still have some parsley surviving the cold temperatures, and I used some of that today as well.
I had planted this small grouping of radishes back in September but they never did anything, at least not that I have checked on them lately. Oops!
The last border zinnias was pulled two weeks ago so we could put out the Christmas decorations. I have not had time to keep up with my weekly postings.

When we pull out vegetables and flower debris from the gardens we bag it all and send it to a friend's farm. She feeds all the scraps to her chickens and then she gives me free-range eggs in return. I love knowing the eggs are coming from healthy chickens. Apparently, they love everything I send them and all the Marigold flowers are really healthy for them to eat. Here they are eating all my kale, beet greens, and pepper plants that were the last to go.
We took time to enclose our back porch with the heavy plastic earlier this month. It really helps to keep the strong North winds off the sliding glass door in our kitchen. Plus, we don't have to shovel any snow off the deck all winter.
It was decent enough a week ago that we sat outside after dinner, that was the last nice evening before the cold days started rolling in.
My husband enjoys watching Tic Toc while Mika has her bone and I read my book. We are going to miss being outside on the porch. It is tough to transition to being indoors so much during the winter. We really love being active outdoors.
All of the gardens have been cleaned and top-dressed with manure and amendments to break down during the winter months. They will be perfect by the time spring planting begins.
I almost forgot to plant my garlic bulbs, not that I had many worthy of re-planting but I managed to get them into the ground.
I guess I will be purchasing most of the garlic next year as this will not go very far. I had the worst garlic harvest this year. Hopefully, next year's will be better. This will be my last garden update until spring.
Now that everything is done around the yard for the year it is time to bring the snowblower into the garage.
To the west and south of us, the counties are getting up to 3' of snow and many people are stranded on the highway that goes all the way to Pennsylvania and Ohio. I can't believe that over 2"s of snow is falling per hour. So many are stuck in traffic for miles waiting to get through the blocked roads. That is a heck of a way to end your Thanksgiving travels. I'm not sure how much may hit us but Buffalo to the west is going to get hit hard. Yes, winter is coming in like a lion this year. Oh my!
Until next time, this is Sunscape
