I received the last of my seed ordered this week and these will be started soon but it's still early as my last frost date isn't until April 15th. I started Spanish onions, and Walla Walla onion back in January and they are doing well.
The leaves are nice and strong now that I started feeding them with a light fertilizer. Also, I have a three-tier fan facing the seed rack to buffet the seeds to help make them strong.
This past week I started red onions and they are all up and gaining strength too.
These were the two varieties that I planted this month and they have both germinated.
The Eggplant just emerged and I started 6 seeds and 5 are up so far.
Some of the cold-weather lovers, broccoli, cauliflower, and cabbage are about to get their second leaves this week. If weather permits, I will be moving all the trays out into the greenhouse the second week of March. Once they are well established then I will plant them out in a raised bed in April with a row cover for protection.
The only other seeds that have been started are Petunias. I ordered a new variety to grow this year, "Copper Spotted" and it looks like most of the seed germinated nicely. They are so tiny and it takes quite a long time to get to a decent size before putting them up into hanging baskets.
Here is a look at the shelving rack with plant lights where I grow the seedlings until planting out. I have 5 shelves with lights that can hold up to 20 trays. Once the cooler tolerant plants get taken to the greenhouse, I have more room to start the tomatoes and annual flowers.
At the moment, this is what it looks like outside, most of the snow has melted yet it keeps coming most days. Yesterday, we had sleet and rain which helped to melt some of it away. I could actually see grass in some places.
Meanwhile, inside I have another Freesia flower blooming, so I get to enjoy a lovely flower even if it is snowing outside.
Happy seeding everyone, soon we will be planting them all out in the garden.
