I can see the tips of Daffodils and Tulips emerging, which is a good sign that spring has arrived. I love seeing the first bulbs bloom every year, knowing that soon warm, sunny days will follow. I took this photo many years ago at a flower show in town.
Since it is still freezing cold outside, I went shopping on Amazon for a few items to add to the garden and a string of fairy lights for the tree that's next to our fireplace.
For the past few years, I had used battery opperated lights on the tree. Finally, I decided that that was too expensive and purchased a set that runs on electricity.
I brought it up to the kitchen to string the lights. I have this artificial tree because the family room has terrible lighting and nothing survives down there.
The electric lights are much brighter than those run by the AA batteries, which was a nice surprise. The fairy lights offer a nice ambiance in the evening while watching a movie.
Starburst lights:
I've seen these solar stake lights for a couple of years now and thought they would make a nice addition to the south garden along the path to the entrance door.
I didn't get the colored version, just the white fairy lights.
I put them in the south-facing window to charge the solar panels. Once the temperature stays above freezing, I will place them along the walk. There were only two in the set, so if they look as nice as I think they will, I will purchase another set to line the walkway.
Moon Fairy:
I saw this moon fairy with a globe and star; I plan to place her next to the pond by the back porch. She will get enough sun to power the solar panel there, and I know all the fairies in the gardens will enjoy her.
Fountain:
I have a lot of hummingbirds that come to the feeders and the garden flowers. They love it when I'm watering the plants and chase after the water mists. So, this year I'm going to make them a water feature and hang it on the post next to the nectar. They can bathe safely in the soft spray from this solar fountain.
The fountain has 5 different heads to use, depending on which type of spray you prefer. I found a large bowl that the fountain can float in, and I will attach some chains to hang it up with. I think the hummingbirds will love a dip in the shallow water and enjoy the soft mist too.
I can hardly wait to put all these out into the garden. The snow has melted once again, so maybe by the end of the month.
Seedlings:
I'm out of room, the seed rack is full, and I need to start another round of seeds. I sure hope I can fire up the greenhouse by the end of next week so these can all be moved outside.
It is time to start the Zinnias, Marigolds, and a tray of beets. That will be this morning's activity to keep me busy. I noticed that the tomatoes that I sowed last weekend have all germinated. That was fast! Now, can the weather start to cooperate? Just saying!
