The potato plants all died back in the three grow bags, and it was time to dump them out and see how well they did. I had put 4 cut pieces of russet potatoes into each bag early in spring. This week we harvested the bags, and this was a decent number of potatoes. They are drying on the porch table at the moment.
Pesto
I still have basil growing in a container and decided to make some pesto with what was remaining. Previously I had harvested all the plants in the gardens, that all went into the dehydrator, then into mason jars for storage.
I made a small amount of pasta and we had that as a side dish for dinner that night.
I still had some basil left, so I put a little oil in the blender and pureed the basil. I put it into these molds to freeze overnight before packaging.
Since I already had the blender out, and plenty of garlic that would not last too long, I decided to puree that too. Now I have both basil and garlic pucks in the freezer to add to recipes when needed.
The nights are dropping into the 40's (F) and I can see that the plants are starting to slow down. It is time to start cutting back some of the vegetables that are done and also some summer flowers too. It looks like another gardening day for me.
Have a great day everyone!
