Warm greetings all. 🙏 💚
In several precious posts I've mentioned that I live in a 18-acre, off-grid, food forest intentional community way out in the jungles of Lower Puna, on the Eastern tip of the Big Island of Hawai'i. Recently I've also been exploring living part of the time on the amazing property of a soul sister, Simona, in Seaview, down on the Red Road, where my partner/girlfriend moved a bit more than a month ago. Simona has been planting a good sized garden, and has been working on creating a food forest. She's been calling in someone to give her garden and plants some I've, and to create a nursery on the property. She's given me complete dominion over the garden and plants, allowing me immense creative freedom. This is very exciting to me, and I hope to share my botanical creative process with you all here. All photos were taken this morning.
Every time I've come to Simona's property, I've brought plants from my own jungle nursery in the intentional community where I've lived for 3 1/4 years, and planted them in her garden. The property is something of a community and event space as well, called The Sanctuary of the Blue Dragon, so there are many lovely people and events passing through the space with great frequency. Another really cool thing about this property is that it abuts a 600-acre forest reserve, so my jungle self will still have a strong connection to earth and nature while I'm here.
I've been sitting and working in and walking around the garden since Saturday afternoon, as I explore staying here for a week. I'm taking an inventory of the plants, consolidating and organizing all the potted plants, and looking for planting locations. I'm letting the plants and the garden percolate in my being for a few days, allowing the new patterns to take shape, and inspired action to blossom. I've already begun moving a few smaller plants to more appropriate locations, and planning the creation of new garden beds.
The longer I'm here, the more attuned to the place I'll become, tweaking and refining as I go. I'll be immensely increasing the plant diversity, land weaving plants into locations where the beauty, usefulness, and biological and ecological dynamics and complexity are increased. This is exquisitely fun and exciting to me, and I very much look forward to diving in, exploring, creating beauty in this new location, cross fertilizing between these two garden communities, and sharing this with you all here.
Thank you all for for sharing this new garden adventure with you! 🙏 💚
