Hello Gardeners Lover, How are you today? I hope we are all always healthy so we can take care of the garden and continue to make our earth green, a beautiful green planet. July is coming soon and that means in most areas in Indonesia will start harvesting rambutan fruit. The rambutan fruit will usually start to flower in March and will start harvesting in July. It's been three weeks that I haven't posted on Hive garden, because I'm very busy with my work. Finally today I can go back to the garden.
Harvesting rambutans
I found that the rambutans in my garden are starting to ripen, I will try one, this is the first rambutan fruit of the season.
Even though it's not fully ripe (not red yet), the rambutan fruit has a sweet taste. It feels like one fruit is not enough when enjoying rambutan, I will choose a few more rambutans😂😂😂
I started checking the garden, there were lots of weeds growing and starting to take over the land in the garden.
Mucuna bracteata weed
This weed is in the form of vines, its growth is so fast, especially when it rains, its fibrous roots begin to grip the ground. This weed is a source of nitrogen elements that are useful for plants, therefore, these weeds are usually deliberately planted in oil palm plantations to increase soil fertility. This weed is a legume plant, has the scientific name Mucuna bracteata. Traditional farmers usually use this plant as a natural fertilizer for plant growth in gardens.
These weeds spread and cover their host plants, so that the host plants can die because they don't get direct sunlight.
Even so, this weed is very useful for maintaining soil moisture, I noticed that the soil where we used to grow this weed became more moist and wetter.
I also use the leaves of this weed for carp feed, because the leaves are not hairy, the carp want to eat them.
Utilization of Mucuna bracteata weed for fertilizer
Traditional farmers usually use all parts of the plant for fertilizer, starting from the roots, stems, leaves and flowers. There are several ways you can do it, the first way is by chopping these weeds and mixing these weeds with manure, the second way is burning these weeds and spreading them around the plants. There are also farmers who just cut these weeds and spread them around the plants.Usually I use the third method, the simple method is cutting weeds and placing them around the plants. I'm going to use this method to moisten the soil around the rambutan tree. First I'm going to take some mucuna weed herbs.
Then I cut the weeds into smaller pieces.
Then I put these weed cuttings around the rambutan tree.
This simple method can help keep the rambutan tree moist during the dry season. This weed is also a dry fertilizer that can help rambutan trees absorb nitrogen.
I think I will enjoy this sweet and fresh rambutan fruit until February, because the rambutan trees in my garden bear fruit unevenly, one tree is just starting to ripen its fruit and two other trees are just starting to flower.
Thank you for visiting and reading my post.
