The Bugs Have Landed... and They all look Fab
Did the world get a little bit more stylish over the last two weeks? I have been scrolling through the Dress Up A Bug entries, and honestly none of them disappoint. When I asked you all to take ’s bug art series and give them a makeover, I knew you were creative but I wasn’t prepared for this level of high-fashion drama and spirit
It wasn't easy to pick I really took my time deciding and admiring all of them. I looked for that Creative Transformation, the Artistic Effort, and most importantly, that Character Story that makes a drawing feel alive and interesting.
It was not easy choosing the winners but after much deliberation, here are our winners
FIRST PLACE (4 HIVE):
The Velvet Monarch of the Gilded Sands
This entry took the character design aspect to the highest level. The way ’s moth antennae were reimagined as a majestic golden crown was so creative. It wasn't just adding clothes; it was a total biological evolution. The lore of the Gilded Sands and the space-signal antennae gave this bug a soul.
SECOND PLACE (2 HIVE):
The Web Rebel
"Mum, it's not a phase!" I am still giggling at the personality in this one as I can really relate to it. Taking that iconic yellow spider and giving her a punk-rock look and vibe was such a cool transition. The "THE WEB" band tee and the skull belt? Perfection. You captured that rebellious energy perfectly while keeping the spirit of the original design.
THIRD PLACE (1 HIVE):
The "I'm the Boss" Mayfly
Talk about a glow-up. Taking a bug that was literally lost in a flower and turning her into a cocktail-sipping socialite was such a clever move. Those brown high-heeled boots are absolute killer boots. It’s a beautiful reminder that life is short especially for a mayfly so you might as well wear the purple dress and order the Rosé. hahaha cheers to that.
SPECIAL MENTION (1 HIVE):
Sir Reginald Petal
I could not let this contest end without celebrating the sheer charm of Sir Reginald. Turning a mantis into a travelling bloom curator felt so sophisticated and gentle. The traditional illustration style gave me all the cozy, storybook feels. He is truly a gentleman of meticulous refinement
A huge, heartfelt thank you to for being our base inspiration; your bugs provided the perfect canvas for this contest. And to everyone who upvoted, reblogged, and shared: you are the heartbeat of the Draw A Day community.
Style is indeed the best sting, don't you think?
