I’m joining the "Let's Draw Cherries" challenge posted in the community by our friend . Being a character design contest host and enthusiast myself, I couldn't resist creating a brand new character for this prompt. The community already knows how much I love this process, so I really wanted to bring something fun to the table today.
Cillian is a brave little ranger who explores the highest branches of the orchard. His vibrant red color and magical green cape help him explore the trees, while his sturdy blue boots are perfect for all the long walks he takes to keep the blossoms safe.
I used my signature pencil-drawn style for this one, focusing on soft colors and those cute, expressive eyes that I love to draw. I also made sure to add swirl details wherever I could, especially in the patterns on the leafy green cape and around the face, to give him a bit of extra charm.
During my initial sketch, I actually tried to give him a hat, but I realized it completely hid the stem on top of his head. Without the stem, he ended up looking more like an apple, so I decided to keep the design simple and let that tall cherry stem stand out.
Do you think Cillian looks better without the hat, or should I try to design a special "stem-friendly" cap for him next time?
