Prompt: Menacing Tentacles
I almost froze thinking how to draw this prompt menacing tentacles. I am already going for that loud and obvious, like monster, destructive, and chaos. The more I thought about it, the harder it felt to start. So I just followed the image that kept sticking in my head.
Instead of drawing the tentacle attacks, I put them in the sky, tangled and hidden with the clouds. I like that feeling that it has always been there. The tenta is not doing anything major, which somehow makes it feel more unsettling. The tentacles hang over the city quietly, they look heavy and patient, while everything below stays still and unaware. Nothing is happening yet, but it feels like it could. That could still spell menacing for me.
That’s the kind of menace I was thinking about while drawing this. The feeling of something looming in the background while life goes on as usual. The tentacles are no longer about a creature and more about a presence that brings stress, fear, or uncertainty.
Once I let myself draw it this way, the idea flowed. No overthinking, just shapes and mood. Sometimes that’s enough since this is a short timed doodle challenge.
If you’re doing the Just Draw challenge and this prompt feels intimidating, you don’t have to go literal. Draw the version that makes sense in your head. That’s the whole point.
