I’ve decided to reboot one of the characters of the Nivukti project. While the original spirit of the young scout LohummTi was there, this new iteration brings a much more grounded nomadic feel to his gear and silhouette.
positioning him on that patch of white Huve (snow) really grounds him in the world.
The Reboot Breakdown (What’s New)
Sokka-Ti (Bunny Ears):
His bunny-ear headgear has a name now and no longer for show it is now defined as acoustic funnels for long range scouting.
Color Palette:
Changed his colors to these contrasting icy blues and earthy ochre which helps him pop against the white Huve (snow) and the sand of the transition zone.
Proportions: He feels more agile, fitting the role of a Ti (Scout) who needs to move fast across treacherous ground.
To keep track of the evolution, here are the specific mechanical and visual upgrades added in this update:
The Opsuk (The Tapping Staff):
I made him a staff from petrified wood it is more like a specialized probe. It is designed to find hollow air pockets or solid star-iron deposits beneath the huve (snow).
The Sokka-Ti (Bunny-Ear Headgear):
I redesigned the headgear into acoustic ear-funnels. These are not just for show; they amplify the distant Hum-Ka (thrum-song) of the Haulers. I made them bigger and sticking out unlike the soft rounded previous brown bunny ears
The Mekk (Grit Pouch):
I designed a dedicated small pouch specifically for Kkhut ( mineral grit) made from an animal bladder. It dangles from his belt for quick access. Since he is still young, he does not have his binary moon grip buckle yet nor the clan scarf. His pouch has a mark of the two moons for now though.
The Tog-Tog: (Clasp)
A simple bone or petrified wood clasp for his ordinary Tssut (scarf), marking his status as a junior scout who hasn't yet earned the Binary Moon Grip or lock buckle.
Other New Lexicon & Tech
Glecko (noun):
This is the field satchel generally the larger storage bag like a backpack to distinguish it from the smaller utility pouch. Usually made out of leather.
Tssut (noun)
A long, versatile nomadic wrap or heavy scarf worn around the neck and shoulders for daily use. It is different from the clan scarf or Tsussut. It serves as a multi-purpose survival tool protecting the feline's lower face from slush or dust acting as a filter against sandstorms and providing essential warmth during the freezing nights.
Pehulu (noun)
The massive, oily fur capes worn by the heavy Haulers
How I made this drawing:
Let us look at the original character I made last year. Lohummti with a cute bunny ears and warm autumnal colors. He is holding a generic pouch on one hand
For the new silhouette I want a more feline shape. I thought about large triangular ears, big rounded eyes and small snout, thin neck and smaller limbs like a cat.
I kept the beige color base for its body and those amber eyes. Here I started playing with icy blues for his clothes.
The fun part is creating the ears with better acoustic purpose now. I am thinking a head gear with side flaps. You can see the probe already taking shape
Then I created the pouch dangling from his waist. The small tog tog or bone clasp is not that too obvious you can zoom in on the scarf
