Hey guys I am back after a long break. I had been thinking about the drawing I made from a previous drawing prompt -- home from the snow I planned then to further develop and build the world of these three feline creatures and today is the start of that very long journey. I am not sure about the commitment I can give here but this is a good start. I finalized that beautiful scarf which is actually my favorite from that drawing I made. Today it took a different form and direction. It is no longer just a piece of article but it now adds something to the story.
The Tsussut ( clan scarf)
The Tsussut is a vital piece for the life of the feline nomads I now call the Nivuk where their world shifts from the scorching heat of the desert to the brutal, biting Huveki (the winter freeze)
this is how simple the scarf or tsussut looks from my early sketches
The Tsussut (The Breath-Filter)
The Tsussut is the primary survival garment of my feline nomads, it keeps them warm while also telling their culture and story. As for the breath filter part well that needs more clarification in the future post
Materials & Construction
- Fabric: Hand-woven wool, harvested from long haired beasts of the snowy mountains. The wool is traditionally cured with animal fat and scrubbed with desert sand, giving it a weathered, windproof texture over time.
- The Fringe: weighted ends keep the scarf from flapping in Huve (snow) gales.
The Grip of the Binary Moons
- Metal: Yll'drom (high language) / Yld'si (eroded form). This is "Star-Iron" harvested from meteor strikes.
- The Interlock: Two asymmetrical crescents the binary moons pinch the fabric inspired by a real belt.
- The Dual Inlay: Right crescent is inlaid with petrified golden brown desert sand while the left crescent is inlaid with crystalline snow dust in silver-white
Cultural Significance
- Social Boundary: Wearing the Tsussut pulled over the nose signals "The Quiet." It is a boundary of focus and energy conservation.
- The Mnemonic Beads: The colored beads and bone carvings on the fringe (as seen in my drawing) are a Life-Ledger. Each bead represents a completed migration, a significant hunt, or a family lineage.
Quick Conlang Reference (Eroded Forms)
- Yld'si: forged star iron (The Buckle).
- Yld'mu: molten star iron
- Huve: snow
- Huveki: winter freeze
Here are the three feline characters two of them have new names now. From left is Sana she kept her name. On the center is the leader from Rylan he is now called Varrumah and the third one is now Lohumtih
Status: Baseline established for survival wear and metallurgy.
Noun Creation: Defined and cemented Tsussut as the term for the the functional nomadic scarf
Compound Roots: Developed Yll'drom (Star-Iron) by fusing Yll (Star) with Drom (Iron/Silt).
Erosion Rules: explored an erosion system for rapid nomadic speech, shortening Yll'drom to the Yld- prefix for daily use.
Functional Drawing: Completed a detailed render of the Tsussut, focusing on the organic, hand-woven texture ready for the blizzard
Designed the Grip of the Binary Moons, a simple buckle system that holds the scarf in place
