I’m diving back into the Downtown Afterglow doodle challenge by Allyson, and today’s prompt is "Early Bird." I am satisfied about how this one turned out because it captures that specific morning I had envisioned.
Inspiration and Design Choices
For my interpretation of "Early Bird," I wanted to capture that familiar feeling of being the first one out in the city while everyone else is still snuggled up in bed.
I drew this scene to show that peaceful transition from the quiet streets to the warmth of a local cafe. You can see the character on the left just arriving, looking curious or hungry and ready for the day after a cup of joe. Inside, there's that perfect "afterglow" vibe with the coffee steaming and people already starting their morning routines.
Nailing the Feeling
I really focused on the expressive faces to show the difference between the fresh energy of the person outside and the cozy, settled-in feel of the folks already at the booth. I used the "OPEN" sign to add that inviting touch to the downtown scenery. It really nails that feeling of a city waking up, right?
Are you an "Early Bird" who loves the quiet city mornings, or are you more of a "Night Owl" who only sees the downtown afterglow at sunset? Tell me I'm not the only one who finds a steaming cup of joe this inspiring
