The new version after the doodle do over
The original piece Starry Friend
Starry Friend — Doodle Do-Over
Hi my friends, it is lovely to see you again after a much needed time off from my screen
Stepping away for a while felt important for me, even if it was a little uncomfortable at first. Sometimes you don’t realize how tired your creative mind has become until you give it silence right?. I missed drawing, but I also needed to miss it. It helped me remember why I love it in the first place. Coming back now it feels gentle, like returning to a quiet place that was waiting patiently.
Have you ever experienced that moment when you can’t seem to do anything that inspires you after a long break? It feels like you are starting from the very beginning again, and no matter how much you try, nothing productive is ever happening. You sit there hoping for a spark or an inspiration, but everything feels distant and quiet and sad. Even holding your drawing tools feels unfamiliar for a moment or unmotivating. It can be frustrating really, but also strangely honest. It reminds you that creativity is alive, and sometimes it just needs time to breathe.
So I decided to try the Doodle Do-Over idea for one of my old pieces called Starry Friend I remember making the original during a quieter time, when I was thinking a lot about wonder and small companions that exist in gentle spaces. Revisiting it felt like opening an old box of memories from myself. I could see the feelings I had back then, preserved in color and texture. Sigh.
The first one was made at night, quiet and dreamy, with my little farmer reaching for the falling stars. She stood there alone under the sky, surrounded by darkness, but it was not a lonely darkness. It was peaceful, full of piece and quiet and soft light. There was a sense of reaching out, and a sense of curiosity, and maybe hope.
For this do-over, I wanted to see this farmer in a different moment. I turned it into daytime, added soft clouds and some gentle sheep to keep her company. The sky feels open now, and the world around her feels more awake. I think that is the major thing that I wanted to happen for this revisit , make it more lighter than dark. The sheep bring a quiet presence, like silent friends who understand the feelings of their owner without needing words. It feels warmer now, like she is no longer alone, just standing there and wondering. The moment feels softer, and a little kinder. The passing stars felts really lonely for me and maybe the sheep is a good idea to bring some warmth and company to my farmer.
I used the same textured brush that feels like chalk or crayon, because I love how soft and alive it makes everything look. The texture adds small imperfections that make the drawing feel more human and more real to me not to mention the AI fatigue we all experience. It reminds me of traditional materials, even though this is digital. I enjoy seeing the grain and the uneven edges etched on the canvas.
It was really comforting to revisit this piece and give it a new life. Sometimes we do not need to create something completely new. Sometimes we only need to return, and look again with a different perspective. or simply have fun and play with it who knows what results you can make.
Thank you for being here with me, and for sharing this quiet moment.
