Mosscloak
Hi there friends and draw a day community
This is my participation in the Charactober character desgin drawing challenge for the Draw A Day Community by . I designed a character for the prompt: Mosscloak. I think we do have a nice set of prompts for this week and this one I am working with now is so good to interpret and probably one of my favorite in the bunch. I am planning to make the rest if I have the time.
My drawing is a guardian spirit of the forest who had been there since the very beginning and that explains the cloak. It is thriving with life like the moss and the fungi. I chose the blue luminous mushrooms because they help the spirit guardian send signals and as well as lighting its path in the dark.
This is the starting point of my drawing. I did not use any rough sketch I just went straight using the black ink pen and doodled this character with a mushroom cap and a tough wooden body then I covered it with a cloak with mushrooms sprouting.
Colored pens are quite tricky to use. I find it difficult to control the amount of value they bleed in the paper so it appears like this on the photo
No matter how lighter the pressure I make on the pens they still look saturated and bright. It is not easy achieving that light transparency effect but that is not a deal breaker for me. I had fun and enjoyed making my Mosscloak character.
If you want to improve your drawing skills Draw A Day Challenge is a nice community to be a part of. There are different fun drawing challenges and prompts that you can choose from.
Thank you and have a good one
