Halowisp (Hálwysh)
Meaning (Murniloo root analysis):
Hál “hollow light” or “sacred dimness.”
Wysh “breath / flicker / spirit.”
Together: Hálwysh, “the breath of hollow light.”
Classification: Luminous Threshold Spirit
Habitat: Edgewoods of Murn Hollow, near mossed lantern stones and hollow birch groves.
Motif Cluster: Inner Fire · Guiding Lamps · Flickers in the Dark
Appearance:
A delicate, mothlike creature whose wings are like stained glass, glowing with light in colors of amber, cerulean, and ember gold. When it flies, it leaves faint rings of glow in the mist.
Its body bears waxen textures crafted from wax drips.
Lore:
The Halowisp, or Hálwysh drifts through the Murn Hollow during the changing of the seasons. It appears where the warmth of one life fades and another begins like births, deaths, awakenings, and even moments of surrender.
In Murniloo villages, children are warned never to chase a Halowisp. “To chase one is to chase another’s past.”
Hollow dwellers hang mirrored jars (glimjars) by their doorways, believing the wisps pause to glimpse their own light. It’s said to be a way of keeping them near without binding them.
When the dusk thins and the air feels heavy with change, villagers whisper:
“For the wisp that waits, between what was and what may be.”
It is both a blessing and a farewell spoken when lighting a lantern at twilight, or when making life changes like: a move to a new home, the end of harvest, a birth, a death, a goodbye.
The Halowisp lingers quietly, in that in-between moment. The threshold, the space between past and future, life and death.
This is my character that I designed using the design motifs and notes from the Charactober drawing challenge : Halomoth by .
Here are some work in progress images to show the edits from concept to finish
This is the almost finished look but the head become more triangular and the eyes more moth like in the final edit and the legs thickened.
The face is looking more alien like than moth. Still quite simple and basic line drawing enough to place the details I like.
I was really going for this look. I love the cute face with a smile and the big antennae. This is in keeping with the previous characters I already designed the ones with nice clothes on and beautiful patterns on their clothes like this collar
Early stages of the design. Very cute but I need to make it more dark because the halomoth brings omen and cute characters may not look that part for me.
