Good day my friends here on the community.
This is the sketch I made for the January SketchQuest contest of . I was actually following a prompt called "bare branches" from the downtown afterglow doodle challenge. I was just sitting there, and thinking about how quiet the streets feel after the holidays. I didn’t plan this out too much, I just started with the tall tree in the front because it was the loudest shape, reaching limbs against the gloomysky.
I wanted the vibe to feel cold yet cozy, like when you're walking home and see the smoke coming out of the chimneys. The lines are loose on purpose which is my kind of style; I want the thinking process to show in it like when I do quick sketches. I played with those thick black strokes for the trunks and then used those bright pops of red and blue for the houses so your eye has something warm to land on.
Process was quick, quite messy, but fun, even though I was doubting if the perspective on the sidewalk was working. That’s my thing: make, go with the flow, edit, meh, keep what’s working and learn from mistakes. Hope you guys stay warm out there
