This is the newsstand at first light. The city is still asleep and completely quiet, frosted over in the chilly dawn. Only the warm light of this small corner store is awake.
Hello community. I saw this new drawing challenge by the Downtown December Doodles. There are only four prompts so there is no pressure and the topic is about the city which I find really inspiring and I thought that I would give this a go. The first prompt did not disappoint here is what I had to depict on my canvas
"Draw a small street corner newsstand at dawn, still half open, with frost collecting on the magazines and metal edges. The city behind it should feel asleep and chilly."
I find that quite exciting and so I wasted no time and made my initial draft.
I am keeping the look of the building I drew on my Spiced Sip Haven building for the frostfall drawing challenge. I am still loving the vibe of that drawing so here it is echoing that look. A red brick building in the city. The ground floor is where the newsstand is and the upper floor is a multi purpose room.
I added some random buildings anything I could think of at that moment. They do have similarities with some famous buildings but they are just random doodles that I put to complete the whole block. The upper floors are not lit as you can see on the windows later that is the plan as per the prompt. I want that city still asleep vibe.
Added some details on the background to complete the city like buildings that are distant and on the shadows. I also colored the windows and glass door yellow for the Newsstand and made the street color more dark.
This is the fun part, adding snow to make everything bright and create a contrast against the dark sleepy background. I thought that was it until
I decided to frame the frosty city scene with a nice huge tree with its branches lined with snow then made some color corrections to make it more warm and bright like in the first image. I am glad to have thought of this final detail and went for it. I love the final look of my city scene. Hope you like it.
