Back again for another round of the Doodle Magic challenge. This time, started with a really dynamic, swirling red silhouette that had some fantastic, energetic curves. Looking at that main sweep, I didn't see a random object or a splash I immediately saw the fluid, spinning motion of a dancer caught in high spirits.
The red shape above is the one we are working on. To create that flowing, voluminous red dress that is catching so much air, I duplicated the original shape and flipped it, layering and rotating the forms until they became the beautiful, symmetrical structure you see now.
Built the entire dancing figure around this complex new form that looks like a tunic. Once it is already looking perfect for me, I completes the profile of the character, giving her a simple, focused expression. Stuck close to my favorite clean and flat aesthetic by using bold lines and solid color blocks. Paired the vibrant red dress with contrasting deep purple shoes and cuffs to really lean into that high energy, performance vibe against the solid blue background.
Building a whole mood just from a few sharp angles and a specific shade of red is exactly why I love this challenge. It perfectly showcases my love for taking organic, wave like shapes and finding the vibrant personality of a character
When you see abstract shapes that suggest motion, do you naturally picture human characters like my dancer, or do you find yourself imagining natural elements like flames or running water? Why you are at it why not give it a go and show us what you made.
