It was time to move on from the peninsula and make my way south for the next leg of this adventure.
Leaving this area is a bit hard to do when the view is this nice.
But the road must be rolled on so I make my way south to Saigon.
As I drove along I saw what looks like wine grapes. Could that be grapes for wine? I suspect so that these are grown in this are that is further south and keeps the warmth for the right temperature of growing grapes.
I stare at the vines the way this farm is set up and it is familiar to me on how they grow, what they grow, and why they grow. Although I am early for the grapes to be bursting at the seams I am watching the field before they are worked and harvested.
Each row ready for the vines to start their move into flowering and making the buds bigger. I wonder what this wine tastes like. I have not heard of Vietnamese wine...only rice wine which is nothing of the red fruity flavour of wine. It tastes more like methanol with a hint of rice. Nice but not so nice on the person drinking it.
It seems like it is the first time I have seen fences around a field. I suppose when it comes to things that people can make wine out of they like to guard the field a bit more due to the nature of what is produced.
A nice field seen from afar. I think it is time to go to the house that has the bottles of wine made form last year and ready to be sold to someone who is going to meet someone who like to drink wine. Why not get a bottle to bring along to the meet up in a month?
I make my way over to the house and find the shop keep there sitting waiting for the moment that I walked into his shop.
We tastes a bi of this variety and a bit of that variety. Each one is very berry sweet and has a bold flavour of grapes and acid. Not the balance I typically taste but unique for this is what they make.
Some ice to water it down....I am not sure why. But then I tastes it and find that it is very sweet and needs some ice....Wowzers this is sweet. Not really for me and will be bought to share, but wowzers this is unique.
Like grasp syrup in wine form. I don't mean that as an insult it just is very sweet considering much of the candy in the country is not that sweet.
I don't mind and will be bringing this for another so I hope they appreciate that I only passed this one are with wine grapes....
We try to talk and motion about the vines and the grapes and the smiles and chuckles are passed between the two of us for a bit....
The day ebbs on and I want to get going to be in a hotel for the night.
I pick up a bottle and make my way onwards.
Here is the back of the bottle for you to have a read. Phan Rang grapes, nice. Those are not something I have tried before in this form. Lets pack on the bottle and get on the road to the next place to see.
Vany Nho Phan Rang wine grapes is the place and this wine grape juice use is a nice treat to take along and share with friends along the next leg of the journey.
I move on down the road and make my way south. There is along drive ahead and I am skipping large portions of the country now to get to where I got to get.....I'll see you in the next post about it.
