It's crazy to me to think that Chiang Mai Hash House Harriers has been around for nearly 50 years. I'm one of the younger people at our events for the most part, but the Hash is only a few younger than I am. Since I wasn't even aware of the existence of the HHH until around 8 years ago, it is surprising to me that it has been around for as long as it has.
I was one of the people that had never heard of the global organization but a friend of mine was a member and asked me if I wanted to go along. That was a long time ago and there have been very few days that I have missed in those years. I love it and it is a big part of my life here in Chiang Mai.
"The Hash" here in Chiang Mai started out as just an every now and then Men-only group and in the time other chapters or "kennels" have sprung up over the years including a mixed group on Thursdays, another mixed group on Saturdays, and even a "bunny Hash" which is all women and they sometimes don't allow the men to attend or if they do, the men are forced to dress like ladyboys.
The anniversary this year is only for the original Hash and it is amazing to me that they have never missed a month of events outside of the Covid debacle, in all those years.
A little more care than normal has been put into the anniversary run on this Sunday and veterans "Skidmark" and "Sirgin".
The run starts at 4:30 and here is the GPS coordinates if you want to make your way there on your own Coordinates.
The final turn can be a little bit tricky since the street doesn't actually appear on any maps but if you look for this sign on the house on the left which has been used to keep animals either in or out, you will turn there and then from that point forward it will be evident where we are. This picture was taken just a few days ago so other than the cars probably moving, everything else should be the same. There will also be an HHH sign hanging on the corner.
This special occasion is a bit more luxurious than our normal meetup points as it has a covered area for us to do the circle in and there are even functioning toilets here. This is quite unusual for us and believe it or not, we even have permission to be here this time.
As is always the case we will arrange bus transport from the Tha Pae gate at 3:30 pm on Sunday, and we do ask that people get there around 10-15 minutes early because no matter what, the bus MUST leave that location right at 3:30. This isn't because we are jerks but because nobody is technically allowed to park there but our bus is able to get away with it for a short amount of time before the police will come along and force him to move.
The run fees are kept as low as possible and I don't remember how much it is but no more than 200 Baht.
There is a buffet dinner prepared for after the run in an air conditioned restaurant back in the city, but it is so damn hot right now that we highly recommend that people bring a change of shirt at the minimum or you are going to be wet and uncomfortable the entire evening.
Come one come all! You do not need to be a member of the CMH3 to participate.
