Hello everyone! I hope you're all doing well.
Being a farmer has taught me many things in life. it is not only about planting rice and harvesting crops. For me, being a farmer means learning to work hard, helping my husband and appreciating the simple blessings that come from our farm.
Yesterday, we finished harvesting rice from our small rice field. After the harvest, there is still a lot of work to do. We do not sell everything. We always keep some sacks of rice for our own rice supply at home. It is important for us because this will be the rice that our family will eat.
Before storing it, the palay needs to be dried properly. That is why we bring it to the dryer so the grains will dry well. If the palay is not dry enough, it can easily get damaged. We also separate some of the good grains because we will use them again for planting in the next cropping season. As farmers, we always prepare for the next crop.
Being a farmer also means I should not be sensitive to the heat of the sun or the tiredness of work. Farming is not easy. Sometimes the weather is very hot and the work is heavy, but this is part of our daily life here in the farm.
While my husband was at the dryer drying our harvested palay, I stayed here near our field. I helped prepare the tractor and the rotor that we use in the field. My work is to arrange the parking and make sure the rotor is ready. Sometimes I turn it on or off when needed.
My husband he is the one who drives and operates the rotor in the rice field. I assist him by checking if the tractor is parked properly. If the parking is not good for him, I adjust it so he can work smoothly. We help each other.
I may not be the one driving the tractor, but I help in my own small ways. By doing this, my husband will not struggle too much, and our work becomes faster and easier.
This is my life as a farmer’s wife and partner in the field. It may look simple to others, but for me it is meaningful. Being a farmer gives me strength, patience, and the joy of working side by side with my husband while taking care of our farm and our future.
