There’s this “Crazy for Cats” challenge going around and I can’t really dodge this one. I mean, looking at my camera roll, it’s embarrassing. My Instagram explore feed is only about them too (and also dogs).
My instagram feed
My camera roll
Okay I will start with this orange cat. This cat lives in my relative’s house. We named him Neo. He wasn’t always an indoor cat though. A couple months ago he just kind of showed up in the garden, and then some weeks later, somehow he decided outdoor life was for suckers.
Smart move honestly. Why hunt for food when you can just meow loudly enough and someone brings it to you? He’s orange, which explains a lot. If you know, you know.
This cat will literally crouch in the garden plants like he’s some kind of predator, all serious and focused, and then five minutes later he’s crying at the door begging for more dry food. Zero survival instincts. Pure drama.
But he’s so sweet it’s almost annoying. Like he follows us everywhere. Bathroom, kitchen, doesn’t matter. Has to be in the same room. For a cat that used to live outside he’s adapted to the pampered life so fast.
The Apartment Cats
And here is another story. I wrote about these guys before actually. There’s just a bunch of strays around my apartment building and I’ve gotten weirdly attached even though they’re not mine and most of them won’t let me touch them anyway.
There’s this grey tabby that’s ALWAYS on the pavement. Like always. Morning, night, doesn’t matter. Same spot. I don’t know what her deal is. Maybe she’s waiting for someone. Maybe she just likes that spot. Who knows.
The tuxedo cat is fancy. Black and white, looks like he’s wearing a suit. Just lies there on the tiles being handsome and completely uninterested in people. Goals honestly.
Then there’s the calico and okay, she’s gorgeous but she has serious “don’t talk to me” energy. I tried being friendly once and she looked at me like I insulted her entire family line. So now I just admire from a distance.
Oh and there’s a new kitten! Tiny black thing with white paws. Still figuring out how life works. Very cute, very confused about everything. He’ll get there.
The last one is this tabby in the park who’s just existing. Half asleep most of the time. Living the dream. No thoughts, just vibes. I want to be him.
I can’t actually adopt any of them because my landlord would kill me, and also I feel guilty enough that Neo’s at my aunt’s place and not with me. But they’re part of my routine now, you know? I see them around and it’s nice.
So yeah, challenge accepted I guess. One spoiled orange boy at my relative’s, a whole crew of apartment cats who tolerate my existence, and way too many photos on my instagram feeds. No regrets. I do feel Hive needs more cats!
