Animals I own, if I intend to keep them for a long time, I give them names. Brenda was born with 9 others last Feb 25 (and I can't seem to find the picture).
My brother Bryan likes her so much that he did plead we'll keep her as another sow or breeder. She's the biggest of them all and had that black dot on her back as a unique mark.
She's named Brenda from Bryan's name. I once had an argument with him since he didn't fed her when it was a mealtime. I got so angry that he doesn't care for her as much when she is named after him.
I sold all her siblings since I have debts to pay and I can't provide their food. She may really need to stay for I think, Sweeney, her mother will get depressed if they're all gone at once.
Yeah, I know. I'm thinking too much.haha
Time came, I think it was when she reached 3 months of age that she seems to lack appetite. She simply smell her food and go back to sleep. I was bothered. She shows sign that she wants to get pregnant but no, she's too young for we do Artificial Insemination or AI at the age of 7 or 8 months old gilt. I did some strategy like intentionally starving her but to know avail. She just keep skipping meals.
One day, I saw an ipil-ipil leaves on my way home from the farm, it looks delicious even to my own eyes (felt like I absorb my pets sense of food haha).
(Swines are kept near our house and the farm where we do planting and keeping chickens is up the hill and it's 20minutes walk for us who are used to it's inclination.)
I asked my adopted teen (yes, I adopted a grown teen from a distant relative, and yes, she's my kind of lifetime human companion, even if she'll get married, she'll live with me haha) to pick the leaves as I think of Brenda might need a change in her diet. Can you imagine a swine which is health conscious? Haha
So yes, I brought it home.
Since then, everyday, I always bring some for her. Her appetite came back and she's kind of always looking forward to it in her every meal.
Here's the link to the video when I first gave her the leaves.

Hopefully she'll continue to be a healthy swine and give me lots of piglets to sell.
All photos are mine.☺️
