Primera entrega de Re:diseño por Pandiseño este año, una de las prácticas que suelo realizar como diseñador para mantenerme activo y seguir aprendiendo sobre diseño, mientras voy rediseñando y corrigiendo logos que veo en la plataforma, nuevamente aclarar que aunque mucha gente asocia el corregir con arreglar algo que está mal, rediseñar implica realizar modificaciones desde una posición personal y basado en conocimientos y gustos parcializados, en este caso los míos.
En esta ocasión tengo la oportunidad de hacer este rediseño y participar en el concurso que Asean Hive nos presenta como comunidad; Esta es una comunidad que busca aglutinar el contenido de aquellos muchos usuarios del Sudeste asiático, agrupar contenidos referente a la región y convertirse en una vitrina que muestre la diversidad de este área del mundo.
First edition of Re:design by Pandiseño this year, one of the practices that I usually do as a designer to stay active and keep learning about design, while I'm redesigning and correcting logos I see on the platform, again clarify that although many people associate correcting with fixing something that is wrong, redesigning involves making changes from a personal position and based on knowledge and biased tastes, in this case mine.
This time I have the opportunity to make this redesign and participate in the contest that Asean Hive presents as a community; This is a community that seeks to bring together the content of those many users of Southeast Asia, grouping content relating to the region and become a showcase that shows the diversity of this area of the world.

Otro de esos logos que tanto me desagradan porque se basa en el logo de Hive y poco más sin identidad, sin algo que realmente llame la atención y lo diferencie de otros muchos logos en la plataforma que son el logo de Hive, colores que identifiquen a la comunidad y un pequeño texto. ¿Funciona?, por supuesto que funciona, pero a medida que avanza el tiempo te das cuenta de que no logra abrazar lo que una comunidad o grupo representa, ya que es algo genérico.
Como siempre lo primero fue ponerme a navegar en la comunidad, intentar entender quienes la consumen, lo que representa y lo que quieren ser, para salir de este logo genérico y poder desarrollar algo que represente mejor todo aquello que quieren mostrar como comunidad.
Another one of those logos that I dislike so much because it is based on the Hive logo and little else without identity, without something that really catches the eye and differentiates it from many other logos on the platform that are the Hive logo, colors that identify the community and a small text. Does it work, of course it works, but as time goes on you realize that it fails to embrace what a community or group represents, as it is something generic.
As always, the first thing I did was to navigate the community, try to understand who consumes it, what it represents and what they want to be, to get out of this generic logo and develop something that better represents what they want to show as a community.
Representar el sudeste asiático no es sencillo, estamos hablando de un puñado de países entre los que se encuentran Brunei, Camboya, Filipinas, Indonesia, Laos, Malasia, Myanmar, Papúa Nueva Guinea, Singapur, Tailandia, Timor Oriental, Vietnam y algún otro que seguramente olvido; Cada una de estas naciones por su parte tiene toda una cultura, un colorido, un arte y una historia muy diferente a pesar de que coincidan en algunos puntos.
Esto deriva en que elegir un único símbolo que represente o que englobe a todas estas naciones es muy complicado y es el reto que encontré en este rediseño, pues decidí que quería encontrar algo que pudiese englobar a todas estas naciones y su diversidad.
Representing Southeast Asia is not easy, we are talking about a handful of countries among which are Brunei, Cambodia, Philippines, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Papua New Guinea, Singapore, Thailand, East Timor, Vietnam and some other that I surely forget; Each of these nations has a whole culture, colorful, art and a very different history even though they coincide in some points.
This means that choosing a single symbol that represents or encompasses all these nations is very complicated and that is the challenge I found in this redesign, because I decided I wanted to find something that could encompass all these nations and their diversity.
Lo primero fue seleccionar una paleta de colores que se puedan utilizar con el logo, entre ellos incluí un Rojo muy parecido al de Hive que a su vez es uno de los colores más comunes entre las banderas del sudeste asiático, también un verde que represente la fauna y flora tan característica de la región y de la cual se inspira mucha de la mística que tienen estas naciones, y a esto le sume un blanco casi una obligatoriedad en el mundo del diseño y un café o marrón oscuro para reemplazar el típico color negro.
Si bien el anterior logo tenía una paleta simple, decidí reemplazar el azul por un verde, dándole sentido y descartar el color amarillo, que si bien se suele asociar al continente asiático muchas veces tiene una connotación racial.
The first thing was to select a palette of colors that could be used with the logo, among them I included a Red very similar to Hive, which in turn is one of the most common colors among the flags of Southeast Asia, also a green to represent the fauna and flora so characteristic of the region and from which much of the mystique of these nations is inspired, and to this I added a white almost a must in the world of design and a brown or dark brown to replace the typical black color.
Although the previous logo had a simple palette, I decided to replace the blue with a green, giving it meaning and discarding the yellow color, which although it is usually associated with the Asian continent often has a racial connotation.
Lo siguiente fue encontrar algo que lograra reunir toda la variedad del sudeste asiático bajo un símbolo, y no existe un símbolo que funcione mejor para agrupar cosas que una bandera, usadas desde tiempos muy antiguos, las banderas tienen como función la representación de conceptos, ideales y grupos, por lo que decidí que una bandera capaz de representar al sudeste asiático sería el símbolo.
Fue entonces donde tras buscar inspiración y varios bocetos, di con uno que logró captar lo que quería representar, una bandera hondeando, cuya simbología significa orgullo y bajo la cual puedan sentirse identificados todos aquellos que forman parte de 
The next thing was to find something that could gather all the variety of Southeast Asia under a symbol, and there is no symbol that works better to group things than a flag, used since ancient times, flags have the function of representing concepts, ideals and groups, so I decided that a flag capable of representing Southeast Asia would be the symbol.
It was then where after seeking inspiration and several sketches, I came up with one that managed to capture what I wanted to represent, a waving flag, whose symbolism means pride and under which all those who are part of
La siguiente etapa es la digitalización y aquí debo asegurarle a todos, aquellos con conocimientos de diseño no me dejarán mentir, que es la etapa más sencilla, lo más complicado de desarrollar un logo es conocer la marca, lo que representa y el lenguaje que utiliza, una vez tienes estos detalles, sabes a quién va dirigida, como se va a comunicar y lo que quieres representar, la siguiente etapa se convierte en algo metódico.
Abres tu programa favorito, en mi caso Illustrator, comienzas a crear formas, darle efectos, duplicar el boceto y poco tiempo después obtienes lo que necesitabas, agregas detalles y por sobre todo tienes que hacer algo que le recomiendo a todos, levantarte y alejarte de la pantalla para que puedas apreciar mejor lo que estás desarrollando, del mismo modo que pasarlo a tu celular u otro dispositivo para que puedas apreciarlo en distintas pantallas.
The next stage is the digitalization and here I must assure everyone, those with design knowledge will not let me lie, that it is the easiest stage, the most complicated part of developing a logo is to know the brand, what it represents and the language it uses, once you have these details, you know to whom it is addressed, how it will communicate and what you want to represent, the next stage becomes something methodical.
You open your favorite program, in my case Illustrator, you start to create shapes, give it effects, duplicate the sketch and shortly after you get what you needed, add details and above all you have to do something that I recommend to everyone, get up and move away from the screen so you can better appreciate what you are developing, just as you can move it to your cell phone or other device so you can appreciate it on different screens.
Una vez estuve de acuerdo y conforme con lo que tenía el siguiente paso antes de compartirlo, es crear distintas combinaciones y aplicaciones, probar que funcione en reducciones y que el logo se mantenga reconocible.
En este caso estoy bastante contento, desde la simbología y hasta la elección de colores, logre producir un logo sencillo que funcione bien en medios digitales, sea también útil para impresiones y formato físico, y que pueda cambiar en su paleta de colores, usarse como stickers o llevarlo cualquier usuario en una camiseta de forma que se sienta representado por el concepto del orgullo del sudeste asiático.
Once I agreed and was happy with what I had, the next step before sharing it, is to create different combinations and applications, test that it works in reductions and that the logo remains recognizable.
In this case I am quite happy, from the symbology to the choice of colors, I managed to produce a simple logo that works well in digital media, is also useful for print and physical format, and that can change in its color palette, be used as stickers or be worn by any user on a T-shirt so that they feel represented by the concept of Southeast Asian pride.
Lo principal y uno de los pedidos de Asean Community era que el logo pudiese utilizarse en reducciones y en formato circular para avatares, utilizando el Asean Hive en dos colores y conservando el mismo formato para mantener una coherencia y que los usuarios entiendan el logo en cualquiera de sus versiones.
Ya sea en formato original, blanco y negro, incluso solo dos colores, el logo tiene la habilidad de entenderse fácil y al ser tan sencillo permite que se mantenga en la memoria de los usuarios, permitiendo su asociación con la comunidad cuando se vea proyectado en cualquier lugar.
The main thing and one of Asean Community's requests was that the logo could be used in reductions and in circular format for avatars, using the Asean Hive in two colors and keeping the same format to maintain coherence and for users to understand the logo in any of its versions.
Whether in original format, black and white, or even just two colors, the logo has the ability to be easily understood and being so simple allows it to remain in the memory of users, allowing its association with the community when it is projected anywhere.
Y con esto voy a ir despidiendo el post, agradeciendo a Asean Hive por la oportunidad, ya que me permite seguir mostrando como entiendo yo las cosas a través del diseño, practicando, estudiando y ampliando mis conocimientos.
Como siempre y nunca está de más, recordar que bajo ningún concepto el rediseño se debe utilizar como una forma de atacar, ofender y herir a otros, el rediseño es presentado desde una posición personal y aunque no me guste o difiera de la forma en la que otros presentan su arte, la idea es continuar aprendiendo mientras brindo otra forma de ver el mundo enorme que nos rodea, desde el respeto y la idea de que todos en esta plataforma tenemos la oportunidad de convivir.

As always and it never hurts to remember that under no circumstances the redesign should be used as a way to attack, offend and hurt others, the redesign is presented from a personal position and although I do not like or differ from the way others present their art, the idea is to continue learning while providing another way to see the huge world around us, from the respect and the idea that everyone on this platform have the opportunity to live together.
