Thailand is a tropical country and what this means is that the rain can come at any time and it can come out of nowhere and in a furious manner. Generally speaking, dogs don't tend to enjoy being wet and in this country being wet can lead to a lot of additional problems such as parasites because these little invasive creatures thrive in moist environments. They tend to become more active during the rain.
While there are covered areas in temples, when the temples are closed, most of these areas are locked up and the doggos can kind of struggle to find a dry place to sit.
The rain was hammering down on my latest feeding run to the Tiger Cave Temple and the dogs came out to greet me knowing that i come, as usual, bearing gifts. It makes me feel nice that they trust me like this but it also made me a bit sad to see that they don't really have any comfortable and dry places to sit.
Although not named as far as I am aware, the little fella in the foreground there is one of the first to come and greet me every time my truck pulls up. I am almost certain that he can tell the difference between the sound of my car engine and others.
They do the best they can to stay out of the rain but as you can see in the above picture that most of where he is sitting is still getting rain falling on it. A bit later on, one of his pals came to join him
The life of a homeless dog is a tough one, and the elements of weather is just one of the many dangers that they face constantly. Thankfully, we have treated all the dogs at this particular temple with Bravecto, a wide-spectrum anti-parasite treatment, so the rain will just be a wet nuisance for these dogs, not one that spreads parasites. Other dogs that are not living in the temple are not so fortunate. We wish we could help them all but unfortunately it is just too difficult to track and record all of the various dogs who don't really seem to have a home ground at all. The dogs that are constantly wandering are the most difficult for us to look after.
We continue to do as much as we can and the Tiger Cave Temple program is one of our flagship ones that we hope can continue to be a success and hopefully be a benchmark for other temples in Thailand to follow our lead.
